Fishing Docklands And Surrounds PART 2

For the first time fished the yarra and docklands out of a boat we did ok.

launched off Newport 7 am, headed for the docklands. Calm morning.

My mate caught first up a pinkie snapper around 30cm on a squidgy soft plastic, first cast, said to each other we're in for a good day here.

proceeded to cast and cast in amongst the morings.

I was using a micro vibe...saw bream feeding....nothing...changed to a cranka crab ( fist time used one )...then I got a pinkie around the same size.

we proceeded to change lures and moving spots...my mate got a small salmon on a sub dog.

I fished a puppy dog and had a follow up from under a pontoon but no take.

then was told by a local to try the bolte.

Fished under the bolte...me mate had 2 chase up his crab, casted back...nothing.

By now feeling ok but not great

we decided to head norh up the river...throught boat traffic under bridges.

stopped at a bridge that looked ok...changed to a crank vibe 2nd cast...bream 25cm first for the day........you ripper finally on the board...than nothing...after a few casts got nothing...too much boat traffic decided to move.

tried another spot...mate got a few hits but no takes on the crab...so we moved.

Finding another bridge…stopped I changed to another vibe ( the good ole faithfull) 1st cast a bream of 27cm…pretty happy.

Poor mate still nothing ( still thinking about that salmon he got…lol )

3rd cast in, same spot…..SMASH….Something big…spool screaming…head shakes…im tightening the drag but also to becareful as I was using ultra light bream rod 1-3 kg - 3lb line 4lb leader cI4 1000….
Took me down…PING…..F$#K I said…( had a feeling what it was )
Lure gone….lucky i had a second lure of the same…tied that on and away we went again…but no good….nothing.

We moved spots after the smashing, feeling pretty devoed to another bridge.

Finally my mate hooked up on old man bream, but the time I reached for the net…the fish went PRRR…spat it….F#$k he said…I saw it, it was a nice bream up around the 38-40cm mark.

It was getting late so we decided to head for home and I said to me mate “lets try that bridge again…so we did.

We stopped again was a little excited …about 6 or so casts….SMASH AGAIN…..on the same lure as the fisrt hoo up…this time I dragged the boat and the fish from under the bridge out in the open…reel screaming the fish was following out to the open….head shakes again….man I was pumped now….trying to take it easy got a few wines in and it took me around the back to the other side of the boat…the fish head shakes…he went PULL PULL PULL AND SNAP….well that was it I was shattered pulled up the line and leader scuffed…I looked at me mate shook me head and said lets go home day is done.

So all in all not a bad fist time fishing docklands and the surrounds….

PS…I will be back for round 2…

part 4

launched off newport for a fish this morning.

water was like glass.

Fished the moared boats at willy in the hope of a bream or a lerking Jew.
Managed a nice size 40cm flattie on a 6" Camo worm, 2 lb line straight thru.
Tried turtleback but no good
Released to fight another day.

After 3 hours for 1 fish, i decided to shoot up river to a few old spots that produce.
a lot of hits and hook ups and a lot lost all on vibes.

Had one hit and hook up on a bream, it felt like a cracker, big run and spat the hooks...spewin'...aw well.

they were very fineky with the bite, the 2 I got were just pinned,

Hmmmmm...something going on now with the bream, not too sure.

Got 2 Bream to 28cm...on vibes.

Not a bad day...1 flattie, 2 bream.

I don't know why, but people often get busted off by big fish in the docklands/Yarra by big Fish from what I've heard. Snapper? Jewies? Great report!

Fishing Docklands And Surrounds continued

I have hit the nong and yarra 1 more time b4 this post just didn't do a write up which in fact was a good trip with 8 blacks to 28cm if memory serves me right.

Hit the Nong this morning as posted.

Haven't caught a fish from the nong to date until now!

Finally got the Nong monkey off my back!

pulled this one from a pontoon, only after a few times he had his own ideas about heading for home. this one pulled well above its weight, man it pulled some string on the new beowolf / ignis combo!
after a few runs for home I finally got him in the net, dam I was wrapped!

37cm ttf on a black cranka crab ( pulled from the packet last night )

after I got this beast 2nd cast later snagged and has now gone to the nong gods!

ah well that's fishin'

a good but slow day perfect conditions except the late rains make the water merky.

a few hook ups and losses

lost 2 nice ones at the boat...grrrr

ended up with 4 for the day ranging from 27-37 cm
