The right size trebles.

Hi all, just wondering if there is a site/place where you can look up what size trebles go with what hardbody. I'm usually busting my bum to try a new lure and don't read or keep the lure pack.

Thanks

Dunno about a site mate but just ask on here, plenty of helpful peeps around.
Or maybe make this or create another thread for a Glossary Of Standard Hook Sizes for Lures.

Mainly 14-16 is ideal size for bream, unless it's really smal hardbody 30-35mm maybe you'll need size 18 trebles

Not sure if i would agree with the chart i have been using the gladiator bingos a lot lately and they are 30mm by memory.I have taken off the hooks supplied and put on decoy 14s turned into a slow riser or a suspender depending on the water.Caught a lot of fish on these.Dont rely on charts you have to work out what suits your local conditions.

That chart would have wrong hooks on many bream lures. SX40 etc most 40 mm chubby style lures would be 14 and 12.

I have found if I carry 14s & 12s then Im pretty much covered for most lures when required.

Yeah I think chart isn't 100%. It was taken from the Owner Japan website.
But I have size 16 trebles on the back of 40mm lures and get fish on them so I'm happy.

Hey Trev,

I carry a selection of 16, 14, 12 and a couple of packets of size 10 trebles.

Trial and error is the key I guess, some guys like bigger hooks while others prefer smaller hooks on the same lure. If you had a specific lure in mind, I'm sure if you asked on here somebody would quickly help you out!

This might sound a bit simple but wouldn't you just use the trebles of the same size that come on the lure?, just compare them to the trebles that are all ready there, they are that size for a reason buoyancy etc. most bream lures run size 12-14 some of the larger surface lures like Sammy and sugarpens run 8-10.

Cheers

I generally use size 10-12 for most lures 40-65mm, I focus on quality rahter than size, a crap hook catches less fish regardless of size

Love Your Work.

In general 80% of bream lures come standard with 14-12, I may upgrade to 10 on some chubby style lures.
I rarely downsize any hook but quite often upsize as long as it doesn't affect action and change a suspend to a sinker.

I generally just have a look at the other treble and make a guess.

It would be easier to have a reference point to check but that will be up to Bear.
