Which Prop for 60hp yamaha
Have just purchase a 2005 Quintrex 455 trophy hornet with a 60hp 4 stroke Yamaha on the back. Boat seems to be lacking speed. The old owner was happy to putt around. Currently 2 up with no gear 20L of fuel, 2 batteries and a Minn Kota only getting 48kph. Is this about right or should it be getting more. Just seems slow my fully loaded and pimped out 3.55 tinny with a 15hp gets up to 38.5kph. Filled in Solas prop questionnaire on there website but after a week still no reply. Had motor all serviced today and going to play with trim tomorrow and see what happens.
Any help welcome Thanks Aussiematrix |

I have a 455 topender with the 4st yammie, I get 55ks out of it with 2 adults, 60 litres fuel & gear with a permatrim. With the permatrim removed I get 60ks on gps. I run the std ali prop - 11 3/8 x 12-G.
Just replaced my clapped out prop for another original yammie and only cost $45, check yours for cupping angle or if it's wearing thin will have a lot of flex. |

To me sounds like you are running a 12 pitch
If you are getting those speeds. Solas will recommend the 12 As was I. But it was wrong for me 13 pitch would be much better If you would like more info pm me

Went for a run today in the rain for a test to see how motor service went and all was well. Went 2 up no gear topped out at 50kph @ 5500rpm trimmed up a little more revs went up and started to cavitate and lost speed. Have organized a couple of test props for tomorrow to see if it makes any change. My next step might be to drop motor as it's sitting about 25mm off the top of the transom. Really need to get front up when on plane as water is coming off right up front on the chimes and hitting the driver and passenger in tiny swell.

Cav plate should be level with the bottom of the hull. If it isn't it may need to be moved or it could be a deliberate move by whoever installed it.
Play with tilt and you will pick up a lot more speed. Lower motor completely, get up on the plane/full RPM and then raise the motor, you'll hear the revs pick up and you'll pick up a few more k's and save fuel in the process. Also tilt the motor to suit the conditions, if its calm, tilt her up and go for it if its rough or a bit of chop then you'll need to lower it to cut through the chop ![]() Most economical RPM is usually between 3800-4200 too, it makes an incredible difference.. on our boat we will quite literally double fuel consumption if going flat stick compared to economical RPM.

Yes ran in to Wal down Basin Veiw ramp last sunday and had a chat and compared setup. Height looks the same and he is running a 14" prop on a 60hp Mercury. Aussiematrix |
