Quintrex seaman advice

Hey all
Might have the chance of getting this boat off the father inlaw but would like to know if I could do a few things to it first. I've rang a few local marine/welding guys and sent them pics but they haven't got back to me yet. Struggling to find time to actually borrow the boat to take it in for them to have a look.
Anyway, does anyone know if making the cover over the bow smaller, leaving approximately the front half (big enough to mount a leccy ) will alter the structural strength of the boat. It has some bars underneath but I'm not sure if they are there for hull stability or just to make the cover strong enough to stand on. I'd also want to remove the rail around the front then put a deck in on the front seat going up to the front of the boat.
So if anyone has had any experience in this kind of thing or knows more about boat structure than me your help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Dazz

Personally, I cut first then ask questions later. You won't have any problems removing the rail of the front.

One local guy said it should be fine. If I'm putting a deck in the front it will add to the strength anyway. Does this sound right or wrong to anyone?

Hi,
I had similar boat being a quintrex Fishrunner and loved it , Great versatile little boat.
I didn't have to cut the rail as the bowmount fitted between it and the coaming no issues. Was versatile and fished outside with ease, also put in front deck from seat to bow. And rear deck, all very functional with rear livewell. Didn't do the full respray, etc just wanted to go fishing

You could cut it back to the bar underneath the bow cover no worries as was very strong boat.

good luck , great lil project

Hey fishrunner!!
Thanks heaps for your reply mate! Very similar boat isn't it.
My plan is nearly identical. I'd cut it back to the next bar underneath and create a bit more room to stand on the new deck up front. I have even thought about the deck in the back too with a live well underneath. I'm really looking forward to having a go at this project. I wasn't sure how the bow mount would go with the rail still there. I may still remove it just purely on my personal preference of looks. Thanks again mate, appreciate ur time and the pic, it really helps!! Glad to hear it is doable.
Cheers

You should be able to cut the top back with out to much drama. If you don't have access to an Ali welder, you can get Ali tubing system from most big hardwares. It has plastic connectors that will allow you to join at the tube together so you can frame out the front and rear deck the sheet with ply. All stuff you should be able to do with a few cheap tools.

There is a few boat fit out threads on here using the tubing system I'm talking about which is where I got the idea.

Thanks mate I'll have a look for that. Was thinking of just using timber but the aluminium would obviously be lighter. See how I go

I now have the boat and began work on it. Went with aluminium for the frame. I'm putting a new sounder in next week but I want to know what to do with the holes that will be left in the transom from the old transducer's bracket screws and cable clips. It's on the left (port I believe) side of the motor. From what I read the transducer should be on the right. Are there any good, easy to us products to fill the screw holes? I also have to move a small step that is basically where the new transducer will go.
Cheers

We only just took an old transducer off a hornet, cus we needed the boat that afternoon we just cut two thin aluminium plates to size to go on each side packed it with silicon and pop riveted it together. Plan on welding them one day..... It's been out at least 10 times and no leaks whatsoever
