Poppers for Whiting

As the title suggests, I am looking for some advise on surface lures / poppers to chase some land based whiting, thoughts?

I have had best results with the clear poppers. Unfortunately I have also had the best results with the poppers that cost the most. The Skinny Pop JR from Zipbaits has proven to be the most reliable for me in either clear suji ebi or clear yellow colour. Bassday Sugar Pens also work well in either HF119 or MB14 colours. Medium speed with constant twitching and long downwind casts are usually required where I fish. I have caught whiting on many of the cheaper clear poppers but usually not in the same numbers.

Does the 70mm length affect the take from Whiting?

I use the K9 Walkers in the clear & purple colours, keep the lure moving.

Found the best poppers have been Zipbaits Skinny pop & Imakatsu Dilemma.

more info below, (SEARCH is your friend on this forum)

i have been having best luck on poppers from 50-60mm, the gobo poppers have been a stand out for me. but it depends where you fish, this spot is deep and open to elements so i think the popper creates more disturbance and they notice it quickly, compared to calm water where a more subtle lure would be more suitable.

Gday tak35bne,
I have fished for whiting on surface for ages , and have tried heaps of the lures mentioned , Sammy laser clears etc. , but the lure that has been the standout for me has been Lucky craft Kerrol pictured,

It has a green front and casts well, I have used it from the Yak as well as land based and is my go to for whiting

I've used only the Damiki umpa 40 this year and done very well wen others have reported it to be quiet. Previous years I preferred the little Daiwa gekkabijjin surface stickbait. Just haven't needed to tie it on this year

Thanks for all the info guys, next step is to search the online shops or local stores (of which there are few) and stock up for a little session somewhere close.

Any small popper or small walker. There is no "best" lure at all.

It is about how you work them.

Whiting need reaction. They're trying to feel for movement. They are very aggressive fish.

I have always found your approach is also really important.

Fish light.......... as light as you can.

I also add something to every lure I use chasing Whiting and that is red tubing to the front, especially walking lures.

mate, if you fish land based especially with surface lure, color should not be considered first, but the casting distance... cover more area and keep the lure as far as from you is the key...

i would suggest if you go poppoer, anything between 40 - 65 mm will do the damage but pay attention for weight, with this range the heavier the better...

for surface walking dog, also i suggest the heavy and thin build(reduce the resistance from air) is better choice...
