JDM (Jp Domestic Market) vs JP Export lures.

Hi fellas,

I need to trial a few more to be certain but it looks like with our favourite brands like Jackall, Megabass that have an export market, lures that are bought from Japan as opposed to imported to Australia from Japan have slight differences? I noticed that the JDM lures seemed to have tighter QC, i.e. less blemishes and smudges or bubbles in the plastic compared to those available here. Also I've got Megabass lures from both Japan, US and Australian sources but the ones that hang in there always seem to be the JDM ones.

It doesn't make sense… why have separate assembly lines? or do we get the QC rejects?

If it's true I wonder if that's the case with other JDM tackle in external markets.
Have anyone noticed?

Agreed with Rekt. This whole "JDM" thing is getting a bit annoying.

Oh good, cause sometime I need stuff there and then.

I know here we send off our best beef, seafood and what not.
But other places like to reserve their best products for domestic sales. Japan being one of them.

All good, thanks

Lol… I had to go and check.
Could it be because the fish I deal with damage stuff more?

The one on the left is a down eye variant from the US

the rest are from Shizuoka. The 110 magnum has been going for almost 2 years and has had more hook changes than I could count including #2 SW singles. I lost the tail eye of a local dog x and an anthrax…

You'd think for the prices we pay for high end jap lures such as megabass we'd be getting the very best but I have to agree I see no difference in quality

I haven't noticed personally because I don't by ex Japan, although I have been unhappy with pontoon 21 Loco perrito QC lately.

I want every new lure to be pristine and beautiful and have its spot in the tackle box hierarchy, I expect this with the money I pay, it's not only fishing it's also a collecting hobby.

Does this sounds like you too?

Yes, but only in a small sense. Lures I use I accept will wear and eventually lose one way or another. Likewise with any other tackle. However the lures that my daughter found cute I removed the hooks and gave her a little tackle box to collect.
Haha so far she owns a Frozen Pink Live-X smolt, an orange nils master, anthrax wakey..and an entire set of Rapala Angry Birds. They should keep for sometime :-).

The only thing I collect are prototype rods, customs built on prototype rods and concept custom reels. I know they're worth nothing to others but...it's worth more to me.

I don't think any of them are bad. Just that they are rated for the fish it was designed to catch. Now you guys catch fish with teeth that break oysters not to mention up here... The detail is still there. I found the difference in clarity of the bib where it joins the lure, the density of their weight transfer and finally durability especially to impact.

Its all probably in your head, but if there ever was a country to reserve only the finest quality gear for their domestic market, it would be Japan.
As they would be able to put a huge premium on it and the locals would still jump on it. And that's what I think is the main reason why the JDM stuff is mainly sold local as there wouldn't be a market big enough to justify export.
If I had my time over I would hook up with a Japanese girl who's father owns a Tacklo

just got these from samurai tackle today
mb 1.jpg

Both the gold griffons have a misprint on the top of their eye with some of the gold writing mb use to label their lures (I don't care in the slightest but it's evidence to disprove the theory)
