Unhappy Mustad Fly clips

Even though I have ordered some through Breammaster I was in a tackle store today and I asked the guy if he had any Mustad Fly clips so I could see what I have just ordered and he told me that he didn't have any and I had an ice cubes chance in hell of finding any .

I couldn't tell him I had ordered some 'cause he probably would've asked why the hell I wanted to see his then .

Ozy.

Ozy, I want to order some from Breammaster as well and I dont know what they look like as the pic doesn't tell you much, does it?

I asked at a tackle shop as well and the guy looked at me like I had two heads
He then asked me what they looked like, I said I dont have a clue.

You can imagine the rest I reckon

Here's a pic I found on www.cabelas.com (what a site!! - I could spend a FORTUNE there!!) that's pretty close. The black one is the one - and tiny!

Fly Clip

Sorry guys but the picture hereabouts is not a Mustard fly clip, Imagine a figure 8 where the top ring is just big enough for the line to pass through. Bluewater a Morley have them about $7.50 for 12 in 3 sizes I have tried the biggest and the medium both work fine and are plenty strong enough, although a little fiddely, you need a pair of pointy nose pliers if you have fat fingers.

Yes, you're right Steve. Sorry for the bum steer, LCF. I bought some last week and they were like the ones I showed the picture of. Upon closer inspection, the ones online here aren't the same, but have a open type end where the split ring of the lure sort of slips over. I've seen them before, and they seem really strong, LCF. That was my only concern before then.

Sorry to have posted the wrong sort.

Kevin

Here is a picture of the "no knot fast snap", aka a fly clip. These are the same design as the Mustad, but better (stronger, won't rust, and are all of one size). EJ Todd import them here. I use the large size for SPs and small hardbodies. They sure beat tying countless knots.

Strewth

ps: If this picture attachment doesn't work, go to Cabelas and search for "fast snap" to see a picture.

I have some of the clips that Kevin showed us and they are great for hardbodies but I want to try the Flyclips for SPs .

I'll find out on the weekend I suppose

Mustad Fly Clips

The no knot fast snaps are very close to the Mustad clips, except for the fact that they are silver. I'll try and get a pic tonight for you and put it under the main pic.

The combo packs are slightly dearer but you get all three sizes in one pack.

Cheers

Warren.

What are the Mustad Fly Clips like are they a satisfactory alternative to retying knots ?

Do they kill or inhibit the action of HB's or SP's ?

Starlo makes mention of them in the Bream book but doesn't elaborate to much.

They do the Job Jim, but I still re-tie because, with me, it takes the same amount of time as changing the jig or lure over - those Fly Clips are certainly snug

I also believe in re-doing knots every now and again, as they are usually the first thing to hit branches, oysters etc, and it's very easy to miss seeing a nick in a knot - if I re-do it when I change the lure it's nice and fresh

I have been using them for a week or so Jim with larger HB's & softies & can't notice any loss of action at all.
