I've been using the 'Paint Shop Pro' series for ages, and although I'm pretty good with Adobe Photoshop, I tend to use PSP for it's ease of use and memory friendly capabilities (computer memory that is, not mine
)Cheers,

Thanks guys I have both of those programs but there is a very steep learning curve with Photoshop, I should just stick with PSP and learn it, instead of swapping and changing all the time......sounds a bit like tackle

Paint Shop Pro is cheaper and a lot easier to use.
It's what I recommend to new users. I have 7 here.

Adobe Photoshop
I think Adobe is pretty easy and I am no computer pro.
All you have to do is open the pic then click on the IMAGE tab then click on IMAGE SIZE. A friend of mine who is a web designer suggested that I should change size to 300, so this is what I have been doing. See easy! Mim

When you save the pic it will give you an option of choosing quality. Choose between 8-10, which is the maximum.
Thats about all I know at this stage Mim

You're always going to get a loss in quality when shrinking an image smaller. Pixel sizes do not change so you are trying to put more colour into the same size pixel. The net effect is some blurring of the image and a loss of detail and therefore quality.
The idea is to make the original image as close in to the subject as possible. HTH.

I'll throw my 2 bob's worth in here (showing may age there - LOL).
I have used and still use most of the products mentioned so far in this thread plus a few that aren't mentioned. All have their place as well as strengths and weaknesses. Most are aimed at editing of images and include many functions to do just that. Resizing is just one of those functions. Having said that, I'm going to recommend a free product that is the only one I use for resizing images for the web - it's called IrfanView. Part of my life of retirement (other than boating and fishing) is website development and IrfanView is worth it's weight in gold to me for image resizing. It's easy to use, has some simple tools for manipulation of images and is quick. You can read about it here http://www.irfanview.com/

Hi Jim
I sortta luck here in that im a retoucher i work exclusively in Photoshop i work in a graphic design field. I would rate photoshop far better than any other applications i have seen. You have better control and can be used for basic functions cropping, resizing etc etc and then you get into the serious stuff. There are some good book out there on photoshop i would have a look at the local library and if they have te idiots guide to Photoshop borrow it. I know the title is really ordinary but it gives a good overview of everything. Cheers Stuie PS Email me if you get into trouble in Photoshop |
