Power pro 8lb diameter

Looking for facts regarding line diameter.

Some say it's thin, others say its thick. Roughly what PE rating does the line approximate? 1PE?

PowerPro 8lb
.005 inches in diameter = 0.127 mm = PE 0.6

Is that just a direct conversion from the published value-

PE diameter
0.6 0.128
0.8 0.148
1 0.165
1.2 0.185
1.5 0.205
1.7 0.218
2 0.235

..etc.?

I've felt the 8lb power pro but from memory it is not as thin as 0.6PE (at least compared to my Unitika Silver thread shore game 8lb). But I can't say for sure because I don't have it in front of me, so require 3rd party perspective. Cheers

I have it on 1 reel & it definitely breaks above 8lb. I have straightened some pretty big trebles when snagged using it. I mainly use it bass or flathead fishing.

Based on published diameter for the line, converted to mm, and then to PE at http://oceanbluefishing.com.au/2010/...iameter-chart/

I agree it's thick compared to what's out there. Go down a notch or two as it breakshigher than it states.

PE system is just a guide. No company strict follows it.

Average diameter for 8lb is 0.205mm

I run 8lb power pro and love it. I get a better cast with it than super pe ( which I also rate highly.

Agree, PowerPro (I use Slick 8) is great. Love it. I have it on a dozen setups from 5lb to 80 lb. All fast tracked from the US at half local prices. If it comes from China super cheap it is fake. Probably reasonable but still fake.

It is important to compare measured breaking strain to diameter to compare lines. See Paulus Fishing for this. Stated Breaking strain is advertising only.

For example (Here I go again I hear you say).

Power Pro Slick 8 10lb breaks at 25 lb and diameter is 0.225
Chinese Power Pro 10lb breaks at 22 lb and diameter is 0.248
Super PE 10lb breaks at 14 lb and diameter is 0.175
Super PE White 15lb breaks at 19 lb and diameter is 0.227

Therefore the Power Pro Slick 8 (rated bs 10lb) is actually thinner than Super PE rate 15 lb AND it breaks at a higher BS.

Also Nanofil 12 lb breaks at 23 lb and diameter is .0258
Also Daiwa Team Sensor 10lb breaks at 23lb and diameter is 0.228
Also Fins Original 10 lb breaks at 27lb and diameter is 0.268 (Go Paul)
Also Suffix 832 6lb breaks at 25lb and diameter is 0.222
Also Fireline 10lb breaks at 25 lb and diameter is 0.235

The thinnest and strongest of these examples is Suffix 832. Who uses it? Power Pro is next best and , sorry Paul, Fins is at the tail.

Note some lines are 8 strand, some 4 strand and some even three strands. Some line Nanofil and Fireline are fused.

Tasline is thinner than all these.

Tony.

3lb if you want it for bream fishing. I have 8lb on a rarenium 2500 that I use for snapper etc. 8lb breaks at 18lb or so! 3lb breaks at 10lb.

It's not the roundest, smoothest or best braid around. But for me it is the most reliable and well priced from the states. Aside from one spool of Sunline its all I use.

I liked to use 8lb power pro when fishing close range to snags, mangroves etc. It can help do shorter casts. Sounds funny but I mean it. Stops so many hang ups in trees etc. Allows a bit more casting control than the really thin 3lb etc.
