Knot for light leaders (2 and 3lb)

Hey guys,

I've mainly fished with straight through fluorocarbon for plastics over flats inthe last year or so and was looking at trying out some light braid and light fluoro leader set up to see if it makes any difference.

I was just curious as to which leader knots you guys tie in such light leaders? I have tried a few different knots and just can't get them to stick.

Hi buddy,

Uni to uni works for me, 7wrap on the flouro and 8 wraps on the braid. You can also double up on the braid which also works and makes it stronger.

Slim beauty works for me, 10 turns down and back.
I have found in the past fused lines tend to slip more in these situations.
Since changing to Sunline Super the problem has disappeared.

I was wondering whether changing over to PE would help, might give it a go. Thanks mate

Hey mate i use 3lb fused lines a bit and also 0.4-0.6 pe attached to 2-3lb leader 80% off the time. I just use a double uni and have never had a problem either with knot strength or knot size (with micro guides). I use 6 wraps for the fluoro and 8-9 wraps for braid.

Having tried a few knots including FG, with Alberto and Slim being my consistant favourites, I tried the Stren knot with my 0.8PE line and Fluoro leader. I believe double uni to be weak compared to others i mentioned, but the Stren is similar to double uni with only difference being the braid tied with an improved clinch knot around the leader and this this was amazing. Lovely through KR guides and on every snag, if i broke off, it was at the knot to the lure, palomar or clinch. My leader survived longer than before. Not sure if it is the new Varivas braid that knots better, but i will keep using this knot as so easy to tie.

Double looped double uni knot with as many turns as you can (6 to 8 is good) holds like a boss :-) it's also fast.
