Abu Garcia CITRUS 1000 Spinning Reel

FEATURES

6 stainless steel HPCR bearings 1 roller bearing provides increased corrosion protection
One piece gear box design allows for more precise gear alignment for smoother operation
Machined aluminum spool
Large arbor drag system
Oversize bail wire
I type knob in 1000,2000
T typer knob in 2500,3000,5000,6000

Thats all i could find on it. Seems like an Asian version etc. The bearings indicate to me it could be salt water friendly. Doesn't say what the reel body is.......... Alloy spool

Like VX I also couldn't find anything other than what he found? Usually Abu Garcia is pretty spot on with finding stats, since their venture with Berkley who knows whats going on???

HPCR is just another acronym for Stainless Steel Ball Bearings - weather they are 304 grade or higher is anyone's guess??? At least they are not calling them hybrid ceramic's like Zebco do in their Cabo reel .

With any reel, if you look after it enough I doubt that any corrosion will start with the right maintenance and care, use good oils and greases and keep up the servicing and get on top of scratches with a little clear nail polish or touch up if you can match it close enough?

If the bodies frame feels cold (colder) to the touch in comparison to say another reel that has a graphite frame, you could be sure to say that the frame would be alloy. However for such a reel it would seem that it would be graphite construction - most of the lower end Shimano's are still XTG7 graphite and do surprisingly well for the work they do!

slazmo,

totally agrees with your comment that if the reel been taken care well enough, corrosion should not be an issue.

thanks.

Yep - simply look after anything and it should be good. Just got to look at those Camira's from the 80's... Those that didn't look after them - they rusted out quickly!

I have a few old school Abu Ambassadeurs and they are notorious for dissimilar metal corrosion - I drilled 1mm holes in each cover plate and ensure that there is a smear of good quality grease / silicone spray on the inside of the plates. This too with my Daiwa Saltist 40H - being completely Aluminium and lots of stainless steel & bronze - you just got to look after things and they will last cosmetically (disregarding wear and tear - whole different thing)!
