Penn slammer

Hi

Does anyone play with the boy toy Penn slammer 560. Is that reel really that powerful for the big fish. How is the performance for 560 such as drag, smooth, etc.

kind regards

Danny

I know Ian Bailey uses them, I also have a mate who abuses his on queenies up north as well as bream work and it's never missed a beat. Solid reels and very under rated I feel.

I have used a Slammer 560 for a few months now and have found it to be very smooth and able to handle big fish with relative ease. I am now using it in preference to my ABU 7000, have it loaded with 7kg Fireline. Have been using it to throw around large Storm plastics, dropped a good Mulloway recently but will keep trying. My opinion in the 560, great drag, robust, not as 'feature' packed as some of the Jap reels but bloody tough (like the Penn Spinfishers), would be my choice to take into remote locations where toughness counts.

I personally wouldn't use a Slammer for breaming because they are not quite smooth enough for my style of fishing. In the style of Bushy, I tend to fish plastics and H/B with the rod tip moving away from the lure, then retrieving slack as the tip moves toward the lure (if that make sense). I use a Shimano Twinpower for most of my work and tend to spin the reel with one crank through the entire retrieval arc. With one flick of the handle the Twinpower will turn 20 - 25 times under no load, I doubt whether the Slammer would be capable of 10 turns so smoothness is important to me.

Just my opinion, hope it helps.

hmm.....legless
maybe ur twinpower has a high retrieve ratio like the sustains here - 6:1
whereas the slammers are 5:1 which is still reasonably fast.
Anyway bought myself one and its fast enough for me. Heavy and solid but perfect for up to 6kg. Will testing it on buff bream. Landed two to 5kg on my 2500 laguna but the slammer will be taking its place.

I used my Slammer 560 for heavy duty. But for bream I normally use my stella 2000 SW or Daiwa capricorn 2000A both reels works well for soft pastic and lots of power.
