Fly fishing in the wind

Anyone have any tips for casting in the wind.
I swear it waits for me.
I swear ive even tried sneaking up on it.
Its all nice an fine not a breath of wind.
Grab my vest an rod run across the road one cast and boooom.....30knts.
Its awesome having a river 50ft in front of my house but this time of year just sucks. Apart from there being bugger all fish in there.
River in question is the avon at Stratford vic.
Im using a 5 wt floater.
I have an 8 wt there but its a bit brutal for little flies.
It so depressing this time of year.
Stupid wind.

Hi Cody,
I've just come back from 10 days bone fishing on Christmas Island where the wind blew 20 to 30knts everyday. The most productive cast I used into the teeth of the wind was to side cast and actually get under the wind. We were only fishing out to 50 feet but the side cast worked very well. My best advice is to practice into the wind as often as you can. I struggled for the first day and a bit until I got the feel back. I didn't practice before going away and I paid the price for it until I got the feel back. Hope this helps.
Cheers Dazz

That im gonna need some practise.
Youtubed it and went for a burn. Wasnt pretty but it deffinettly helped.
What type of leader tippet set up do you recomend.
I was using a czech nymph about three feet under a royal wulf on a furled 6ft tappered. That much wind two hooks and an abumndance of blackberrys made it a bit of a job to start with.
Thanks for that mate. Just gotta pick a nicer day to practice on.

11 foot leader but for you I'd start with 9 foot and get rid of one of the flies until you get the hang of it. Don't wait for a nice day as anybody can cast on a nice day, do it when it's dirty as that's the only way you'll perfect it. Good luck.
Cheers Dazz
