How Do You Wash-clean Your Reel After Use

hey guys this has probily been posted a few times but just wondering how do you wash and clean your gear after a days fishing

myself I always give the rods a hose but never the reels, thye might get a light misty spray etc but I never hose them directly, then I get a bucket with carwash and a rag and just use the damp rag to wipe the rod and reel down, then go over reel with a tea towel in shed, then every few times I hit the reel and rod grips with reel deal and again wipe off

so is there any other little tips etc you guys use or prefer?

I always give my reels a spray of inox once they are dry.

Note: Give your reel a good spray of inox when you buy it before the first use.

I hose my rods and then wipe them down, reels get wipe with a wet cloth.

I hose both reels and rods down then Wipe down, why don't people hose there reels off? I've been doing it for years with no problem

Lubrication and provides a barrier for salt water getting into the reel.

Read an article by Starlo years back and that was one of his recommendations. I have been doing it since. I have 2 Stradic FH reels that are as good as the day I bought them new so it must be beneficial.

Clay. I light spray both rods and reels with the hose. I also spend a minute just going around the spooled line only with the spray to try and remove any deep salt if used in saltwater. A wipe down doesnt always happen. After washing the reels I flick the handle a few times at speed to remove any water from the roller bearing and associated parts. Inox happens every 3rd trip.
Havent had a drama ever doing this and my gear is serviced each 6 month period. Cheers Gav

I put rods and reels in the shower and hit them with warm water. Then once dry give them all a spray with a product called Salt Off and let that dry on them. Leaves a thin coating of something on it and has worked a treat so far. I have no association with this product.

I always hose rods and reels in a downward direction. Then I shake the rod and reel so excess water falls off before I place them back on the rack to dry.I have never had any problem with my reels at all.

Reels i just wipe over with a clean rag thats had a little spray of inox on it and cut some small strips to clean roller and other hard to get to spots.
Rods i just spray guides and clean with rag and then i clean the blank with armour all wich is awesome (try it) i might occasianally wash the rod with dish washing liquid and rinse(if salty)and then do the usual spray and armour all etc..but i will add that i dont really let the gear get dirty in the first place its really just the spray from the reel(braid) that etc etc.
The only time my reels get a rinse with fresh water is if it rains while im fishing.Im carefull not to go to far in regards to cleaning as i think you can do more harm than good IMO/or if you need to its time for a service.I know a fella who fishes the beach spinning for salmon with a sustain that he has had for a very very long time and he just brushes the salt off with a paint brush and wipes over with a damp cloth..and reel is in great condition..

yeh go easy on the inox .. never understood why i've read some internet advice (the internet does have info that is wrong sometimes

) to liberally spray inox over the whole reel .. letting it penetrate all the nooks and crannies of the reel and potentially spraying dissolving grease i.e. so the spray rinse with water, let dry, then spray inox etc. on rag and wipe off

Lock drag. Spray down guides and reel with water from a spray bottle. Shake off excess water. Back off drag. Let them dry in shade.
OR if i've got a long trip back home. Store the spray bottle in the car. Spray down rods and reels as soon as i get off the water.

From what I have heard Inox is actually not good for reals. Because Inox has something in it that dissolves grease. Just what I have heard not sure if it is true or not.

Wipe over with a hot towel, inoxed then put away.

Mine come in the shower with me , tighten the drag on the reel , I've never had a problem and have been doing this as long as I can remember , I still have my very first Barra outfit that I bought from Jack Erskine 30 odd years ago and it might be old and well used but still in great condition after many dunks in the shower. I don't put anything on the reels I just let them air dry. I service my own reels twice a year
