Shimano Shallow Spool?

Hey just wondering if anyone knows of a shallow spool option that could fit a stradic 2500fi The only ones i have seen are the yumeya stella spools but if i have to fork out $150 for one of those its not really worth it

What about collars - have seen them used on other spools? I know buying spare spools is crazy talk money wise...

There has to be a cheaper option for sure - other than backfilling.

I have heard of fellas putting a few wraps of masking tape in the spool to fill it up a bit then the line.Dunno how the weight would go but it sound's like it work's.

yeh im not the biggest fan of backfilling, masking tape sounds pretty good the only thing i can think of is it might deteriorate a bit if it got wet after a while

How about a bit of electrical tape,no water worries there.

Masking tape....electrical tape.....collars....
Are you guys serious???
Why wouldn't you just back fill the spool with mono?
I use maxima ultra green on all my 2500 size bream reels and then top shot with a quality PE.
Even if you an ultra light bream nutter who likes to use PE0.3 or 0.4, there's no harm in having some 8 or 10lb mono backing......

When hooked up to something decent, there is no better feeling than the reassurance that backing provides

My advice would be to save the heart ache and get another 2500 spool if your after a second spool
The 2500 max drag will be significantly higher than a shallow spool which can only be a good thing

Good luck

Yeh i definitly see your point there. I have used mono backing in the past and had a whole lot of trouble with the connection knot. Im sure it works great for most people i just couldnt be bothered and I would rather have i slightly under filled spool than have to muck around with putting backing on

mate backing is hard to get to in normal fising at any ways. i been using light backing so the knott dont effect it. 3lb braid so 3 or 4 mono etc. I only fish light .but if ur set on a shallow spool try the ci4 fml. i think thats what its called. its a genuine stradic shallow. as for tape i too find that weird . imagine the damage in te longrun with stickyness etc

Yeh tape would be a little

We sell Gorilla tape at work - its EXTREMELY sticky... Would hate to see the residue that it would leave on the spool when you come to remove it - or on the line when you get down that low. Also water may ingress into it and then what???

Backfilling is the sensible act - however you got to match the same strain as the topping line - otherwise it goes to poo.

The only thing I hate (hated) was seeing all that 50lb zipp off the spool only to come to 30lb backing and then "bang" seeya later to approx 200 meters of 50lb pe gone into the broadwater...
