wow lotta drag topics coming up nowadays aye

just be careful with the type of thickness carbontex sheeting that you order, as some reels are more suited to 0.5mm and not 1mm, especially the smaller, more finesse reels

cheers

gday siddo,

its been a while but I remember using 1mm for shimano 2500s without any problems, but did notice that the drag profile changed a little. ie not as many turns were needed to increase the amount of drag. I've never done a 1000 before sorry.
grab a sheet of each and experiment I reckon and remember, you don't have to swap out all the original washers

I have found with some of the larger reels that I have eg: Saltist 40 - the Carbontex washers are thicker than OEM - so I can reduce the stack and still manage a better drag setting. Just got to look at my 500C5 Alvey - played around with that and managed to get a killer drag made from teflon washers suited for the larger 650C5.

Like Nag's said - experiment and things will work better sometimes. Even make the washers larger if you can 'width wise' - I have noticed that shimano aren't taking full advantage of the contact surfaces, I made a larger washer for my Ceanan and its a heaps better drag now than standard!

Thanks nagz and slazmo

I'll get onto both. Im thinking that the thicker sheet will work anyways with some of my bigger reels and the tyrnos's.

I had seen that my curado e200 would use .5mm so was hoping to only get one sheet. But it is cheap so 2 it is!

cheers

No worries - I doubt that a slightly thicker or thinner sheet will do much harm to s single washered reel - within regards to the stressors that cranking down the drag will do to it, I have personally seen my carbontex washers flatten a little (obtained from the Downriggershop.com.au).

Single drag reels are and I would say comfortably not that affected by slight thickening of the drag material at all. If it was a multistack system thats when it can be affected as its a multiple of the thickness issue.

My Saros, Stradic FJ, Callisto, Caenan, Coriolis, Exceller, Laguna (old variation) all copped the thicker sheet of that Carbontex - I played around with the multi stacks and 80% or thereabouts took the carbontex sheets in the .90mm well and work fine also.

Also the price of the sheet has gone up from $15 to $19 in the last few months
