line help
today while fishing i got about 5 big tangles when i was casting on my spool, it was like line was coming off before the line that was ment to so there was 3 lots of line coming off my reel which = a big mess, ended up loosing about 1/4 of my line thanks to the knots, dose any1 no what causes them? was the reel spooled wrong? maybe my casting? was useing 5 lb frog braid on a 1000 stella

Was it over spooled?
Did you take the line right up to the lip of the reel? What were you casting because if you don't bring your line back onto the spool with any tension then loops can come off at the same time. |

na wasnt over spooled, was mainly casting micro vibes, i think u might be right with not enough tension, but id have to strip double what i was casting to get the tangle out

I had the same problem once before on one of my reels what you
got do is either add or take off one of the spool spacer you get spare ones when you buy the reels in the box what it is that it's the way the line is laying on the spool by adding or removing the spacers it changers the line lay and stops that problem. |

From my understanding, casting knots are caused when the momentum/speed of the line coming off spool does not match the line cast speed. eg. When the the braid/fluro knot hits a guide and rapidly slows down casting backlash. Or the lure that is cast is too light causing a negative speed at the terminal end (lure end) compared to the proximal end (spool end). The line at the proximal end catches up with the terminal end and you will likely get knots.
Its basic physics hope this into helps shed light why its happening. Phil |
