The Big The Bad And The Down Right Dirty !!

Well the warm weather has certainly gone
And with that , the surface bite has slowed (still get a few but a bit harder).
In the past few years that means to most including myself, Blades and plastics to get down to the schooling fish.
The difference this year for me is that i am going to stick to the hards but just go DEEP
OSP Dunks, Imakatsu Dilemma, Luckycraft Pointer 65XD, Bring it on
Not too many spots in East Gippy that a lure that dives to 4m wont hit the bottom. And for me, it means a winter challenge to see if i can catch the quality and quantity of fish i usually do this time of year on the Blades and Plastics........
BRING IT ON

My plan for the winter is to target schooled fish on the thinnest possible braid I can find run straight through, experimenting with colouring the end of the braid red with a marker. Should be interesting.

Some good reading on the subject

http://lureandfly.com/2012/09/28/how-deep-is-deep/
http://lureandfly.com/2013/04/11/how-deep-is-deep-2/

Just a simple thing if you put your rod in the water 1 foot the lure will be diving 1 foot further down.

the theory is that thin braid will allow lures to work deeper with way more sensitivity, and will create less disturbance to alert fish, red is the first colour in the light spectrum to disappear underwater, I think blue is last (don't quote me on that one) it takes about 4m in clear water to disappear, that's why the first colour you see when you raise a snapper is blue. I don't know exactly how it works, or what that will look like from under the water, but I'm going to give it a crack.

pretty much relates to the light spectrum and what wave lengths water can absorb with colours containing the lowest engery dissappearing first. colours are absorbed in order found on the light spectrum, red first followed by orange then yellow and so on, look at a rainbow and youll know which colours go first

But what does that relate to under the water? Is it just relative to the distance between the light source, the surface of the water and the object or is it simply the amount of water between you and the object, ie if you were under water.

Sam,
I ahve a few dunks pimped to my favorite colours. From stock the GF-76, PF-45 and G-01 are great colours. The Dilemma in the Red, and again have a few pimped. Mostly in the Pontoon21 Bleeding and Bloody tiger prawn colours...
