Inferior copies.....
Instead of hijacking one of the other threads with content very similar I thought I'd start a new thread with my opinions...
What is it with all the lure rip offs these days? It seems like everyone just wants to jump on the band wagon and start up a lure company which is based on imitations of high end lure profiles, I have seen so many on Facebook recently and it is really starting to get beyond a joke. Soon we will have nothing but cheap Chinese and Korean rubbish imitations to fish with. I am so sick of seeing inferior copies and poor Megabass and OSP (just to name a few) have copped it from every angle, I'd much rather spend the extra money to get an original, quality product. As they say you get what you pay for. If companies keep copying these high end lures then we will see a decline of quality products being brought in, which in turn will put new players with innovative ideas off entering the lure market, especially here in Australia. Who will these companies have left to copy once they have driven all the real players out of the market? You wouldn't cheap out and buy a copy of a Shimano or Daiwa rod and reel so why do it with your lures. Anyway that's my rant. What are your thoughts?

With you 100%. I refuse to buy an imitation of anything, not just lures, regardless of price.

yeah, id be pi$$ed off if it was my lure design being ripped off, but at he end of the day its a bit of plastic with some hooks hanging out. Its not like its formula one race car technology or the cure to cancer for christ sake.
I know how much it can cost to research, develop and then manufacture a product. Thats all up front cost and then a little more for materials. Once a lure design has been finalised and the tooling paid for, all of that can be paid back in a few good production runs. Just be realistic about the sale price and you'll get ripped off less. 33 bucks for a lure, i mean c'mon and megabass charging up to 45 bucks for a few grams of plastic, get real!!! |

The copied lures you are referred to are considerably smaller than the originals. Seeing as the original manufacturer doesn't actually make these lures in these smaller sizes that we might prefer, I can't see anything really wrong with local businesses providing the local bream fishermen with what they want. If the originals are patent protected then there could be legal repercussions, otherwise it's a free for all. That's how it works.

I laugh to myself when I go into a chain retail store (ranger outdoors, DohDohDoh ect) and see they have replaced there quality lures from cheap imitations!
You will find a lot of people can only afford these cheaper imitation lures. some bassday copies are dead ringers and swim the same. Maybe we have just been getting over charged for far to long by the company's that have been there since day 1?
