What are your thoughts on people using fish caught by others to promote themselves?

Hey all, it's been quite a while since I've posted on here so hi to all my old mates.
Lets cut to the chase. I recently witnessed an "event" at the Gippy Lakes round of the ABT where a sponsored angler had a photographer arrange for another persons fish to be passed onto them for a photo shoot. These pics I understand were to be used by said sponsored angler to promote themself in magazine articles. The guy who caught the fish was stunned when he realized what happened. I've thought long and hard about posting this before I did and realize its probably gunna be a little bit controversial. I will not name the angler but if the person involved would like to come forward and explain their actions and motivation behind it I'd be more than happy to listen.
Ok so here is the question.
Do you think it's ok for someone to use fish they haven't caught themself to promote themself and potentially lead the sponsor and the public who follow this person astray?

IMO its crap and it should not happen, blatent lying of which also happens a fair bit in the comps as well to promote products, think most comp anglers would be well aware of that fact. If your sponsored Angler then surely your a good enough fisho to catch your own fish to help with promotion

Great topic Bruce...

Just out of curiosity, was the reason the fish were "propped" into said sponsored angler shot, due to fact that he/ she had caught no fish, and needed some for the "shoot"?

Or were fish caught and these were bigger, therefore hijacked?

Or maybe the sponsored angler had already released "his/ her "booty load ( of bigger fish) and needed these ?

Sounds like pretty poor form to me.

In my opinion its on the same page as someone catching a fish on one particular type of lure and putting a sponsors lure in the fishes mouth for a photo shoot. False advertising.

The fish the sponsored fisher had were not big so hijacked, yes!

I guess the only people it really effects is the culprits themselves, especially if outed on a public forum which i reckon is pretty funny.Someone's probably getting pretty twitchy right now.
Personally i have very little faith in sponsored anglers or accolades written by fishing gurus, boat testers, car reviews etc etc etc.You write a crap review and you never see another freebie in your life......isn't this how the system works
cheers nereus

Stolen fish

First of all I like to say the angler that caught the fish in the first place why did
He let the pro angler use the fish in the photo shoot. To tell you the truth if that
Was me there would be no way I'd let that happen. When that pros photos turn
Up in a mag and he's holding those fish with his sponsered rod and reel its false
Advertising. I can't believe the pro would even do that.Shipcat well said good that you came out and told this lets people now what the comps are all about.

Cheers Shane
