Send a message to Geneo either on here or on Facebook, I reckon he would be one of the best to ask.

Hey addict,

Ive thought about it before. The way id go about it would be to order the body parts and rotor from daiwa aus or jap so that i had perfect new and clean parts to begin with and a reel that was in one piece until it was time to rebuild with the new body!! Me having OCD would probably completely remove the old finish and then have it painted prefessionally. Def worth doing but worth doing properly!
