New and Confused

Hi all

only started fishing for breams with hard body lure a few weeks ago and is already confused with the range of lures available in the market for them.

reading and learning from this forum, there are those who fish small lures 30mm - 45mm for huge breams and there are also some how use 70mm-80mm for them...

so what's the deal? which are the most productive/all rounder size lures to use to fool those educated breams.

please advice.
thank you.

Bream*

depending on the area your fishing and how well they are biting, always been the case of big lure big fish but unfortunately this doesn't occur all the time. I recall catching a 48cm fish on a 40mm lure, Im sure you will get over your confusion once you have worked out your local area and what lure types they are into.

Brimz*

A lot depends on your location, it seems the bream species found in the southern part of the country, the black bream often eats 60-70 thinner profiled lures but can be caught on much smaller fatter lures, often around 38mm.

The black breams northern cousin, the Yellowfin bream is more often caught on the smaller fatter lures than the bigger thinner style lures - unless your throwing surface lures....than anything upto 90mm is ok in some conditions...

Basically, keep at it and it will all work itself out.....

I like big profile HBs such as the 75mm double clutch I Know if I hook a fish good chance be big fish but I caught 37cm on sx40 and I caught 39cm on double clutch, so it all depends where fish, time etc....

Go for 40mm-60mm and you should be satisfied

Hope this helps

Just trying to help. You can have 1 bream, 2 bream or 1000 bream. They are like sheep, in that the plural is the same as the singular. Not that it really matters.

Black bream will take any lure from the tiniest, right up to ones 10 cm long on occasions. Basically, when they're hot to trot, they will take just about anything, but when they're shut down, the first thing I do is to start downsizing my lures. I've caught tiny bream on a 76mm Bent Minnow and huge ones on 35mm lures.

This trick is to have lots and lots of lures in all different sizes and shapes.

You wont be confused once you have spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on lures etc. You will quickly learn what works and what not. For price and ease of access, give lure companies like Strike Pro, Rapala Sebile and Damiki a go before paying big dollars for lures. Then u will get to the stage when a $20 plus lure will be normal hehe, even when you lose it.

The Damiki saemi is a great all round lure. It suspends nicely and I generally slow roll them with a couple of twitches and pauses depending on how the fish are feeling. Best thing is they are cheap as chips!

thanks for all the pointers guys.

just wanted to know which are the better option to keep my purchasing of unless lures down.

fishing for those southen bream, so i am guessing from all the pointers and hints given, i should keep to a max of 70mm?

how do you guys tell what the bream are up to and what would they feel like having a go on that day? water condition? water temp?

have given strike pro flatz a go.. bream seem to go all over it one day and get spook by it the next.. same twitch and pause.. don't understand them like i can never understand woman.

all lures work... the colours are only to catch the fisherperson

but seriously , i know people that catch bream on anything , its what you feel
confident using.. and you can call them bream or breams or brims or whatever you want to ... thats the best thing about living in a country like australia ...

Hahaha join the club mate, who here truly understands Bream and Women??? That's why we chase them both mate, the challenge Bream are just like Women they love you one day and hate you the next, sometimes you just have to cut your losses and tmr is a new day. There are many things to look for when chasing Bream mate. Think about and search for what the Bream in your system are likely to be feeding on and try to match the hatch with your lure. That's a start anyway

i believe its something you gotta get out and test yourself .. i spent months and months of failure when i started and once i had a few consistant days of catching fish in a few areas on certin lures and lure profiles i stuck at it and kept catching fish.. even when its tough on a normal day or in a comp i will still go back to the basic ways i used to fish when i first started , it can also be a confidence thing aswell!
