Hey Pete if that book is from a fishermans perspective it would be a great read, I hope its not from the Bambi brigade though.
I'll be ringing Angus & Roberstson tommorrow morning to see if they stock it as my local library sucks.

Hi Pete
There isnt much research done on the humble bream apart from breading. So far my search has been fairly slow only a handful of books out there that fit the bill. The reason i aske what do bream see is if the bream can see more shades of colour or cant see particular shades it pays not to go there. Cheers Stuie |

gday
that would be an interesting read sometimes it is not really the colour that catches the fish the colour catches thre angler and it would save u some money on lures if u only bought the ones that the fish can see. thanks michael

Hi Micheal
I totally agree and that why i put this posting up. Its no use in firing lures that bream cant see or dont percieve as realisitic. sharks dont see some shades of red so a red lures are out of the question. Its also to note that as the water changes the hue of the lure changes as well. The deep you go the less some light DohDohDohDoh will reflect so yellow make take on a green or blue hue to it. Water Absorbs the red end of the spectrum first, so red lures /
lines loose colour rather quickly as water depth increases. Blue is the last colour to fade. When a lure looses colour it turns black. It all gets rarher confusing when you try and add what colours Bream see into the equation!!!! From experience, and reading this forum, Gold and Orange seem to be favoured in hard body lures, Brown and Green in softies. But, onbright sunny days,,,,,,,,,,,, The discussion goes on forever! It would be handy to know how Bream view the World though!!!! |

it would be nice to see the world as a bream does
maybe its not a colour thing but rather a movement and contrast thing. Cheers Professor Stuie |

Shape and Contrast could play a greater part than we realise!
Think about how many Members have said they are hit at rest! Both with hard and softies! |

Hi Blufin
i was chatting with Muz Wilson on another BB and he was suggesting the use of only 2 colours. the two colours would roduce enough contrast . this is from the flyworld web site www.flyworld.com.au Muz wilson ties flies commerically. Notice how there is very basic colour change between the two Cheer Stuie |

gday stuie
i reckon that half the lures on the market would be no good fo some fish due to the colour but i mainly just go on what the action is like cause some fish attack out of agression. thanks michael

When you get into fly fishing you start talking about attractors and imitators in fly paterns. I suppose twintails would fall into the attractor catagory, and baby craws into the imitators.
Now I've done it ! Something else to think about! We all tend to buy too much, because we, not the fish, like the look of it! A lot of it ends up not used! But were Happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers! |

Hi Mad mike
I think more fisherman are caught on lures than fish as my Dad keeps telling me. Your right the action i think rates higher than colour. but it is hard to see action in a lure packet in the shop. Also the sound it produces in the water as sound travels 5 times quicker in water than in air Cheers Stuie |
