Knots for microguides

Had a bad few days with lures lost due to poor leader knots.
Have given up the Albright for while as they were the main culprit.
Has happened with blood knots in the past.
Every precaution had been taken including Bimini loops and tightening up using finger protectors.

Right now only my FGs have not failed me.
These knots are for rods with micro guides including a 7'MF running 20braid 30 leader. Cheers

Try using a Stren knot, locks down on thin braid and never slips.

Thanks, the stren knot is pretty much a double uni, at 30-40lb the leader part of the knot gets hung up.

Kaneit knot works for me.
Fg knot for the win though. Flys throught the guides.

Albrights tie a very slim knot and are really good just a little tricky to finish.

You must ensure the tag end of the braid exits the loop in the leader the same way the braid originally entered the loop.

That may confuse but have a close look at how to tie an improved albright or better get someone to show you and you will see what i mean.

If they come loose your not finishing them correctly.

I use an improved albirght for most leader connections with no problems.

Dave

Good Advice ^

I find it helps to trim the leader tag end as close as possible, but only after clenching the knot up.

In fluoro leaders over 30 lb I prefer a bimini to albright with 6-8 alternating half hitches with the braid tag end above the albright.

Thanks once again. I quite like the end result and in most periods of fishing it never failed me until a spade of failures (several JDM lures) were lost.
I know the FG isn't rated highly under Paulus' tests but it has yet to fail on me and it is the slimmest, I'll stick to it for the high price stuff and use albrights on metal slicers till my confidence is back :-).

Further note:
I found FGs that are tensioned away from leader so that it spread out works better than the crosses snug against each other. It eliminates the high angle turns in the main line. Also I've started to reduce the FG to 10pairs + 2 sets of hitches. Works fine so far.

Run a shorter leader so your knot is out of the rod.

Is 10-17lb St. Croix Legend extreme lxc70mf. Micros are common in USDA rods cause they main use straight mono and fluoro until except for frogging, matt punching and the swimbaits and Arigs.

Seriously, the FG is your best bet, if it's not that then tie a bimini to a wind on. There are no other knots that are going to cast well with that setup.

Yeah,

I'll wait till one of my guides break then ill get larger borderline guides. Size 4.5-5 in TiSc and acid wrap it.

Love the blank, the handle balances well if a bit weird looking. In attractive overall but big on performance
