2.5" atomic sliders

Are the 2.5" sliders a bit big for bream it seams that more success is to be had on smaller varieties. What is the opinions out there??

We had a couple of guys using 3" Fat Grubs on the weekend in Albany Grant so I don't think 2.5" is too big. I've used them myself with success.

You are right though in regards to the 2" being a pretty popular size.

Warren.

G`Day Grant,

One of the lads was using a 3" Fat Grub last week with me and nailed a 38cm Bream, so yeah it seems all sizes will catch, depends whats biting around the area your fishing.....

Cheers

Richo

Yo Richo,

I'd have rathered that person was described as "master local angler" than "one of the lads", but you cant have everything.

The other thing to remember as well is that flathead seem to like the larger grugs as well. Not a bad little side line if there are a few about.

It's all horses for courses

If the fish are really fussy, generally a downsize in both plastic and leader will help out.

If the fish are very agro, I've found it helps to go a bit bigger as the smaller fish find it harder to hook up on a big plastic - you'll get heaps of hits but hopefully only the better ones will come to the boat

Thumbs up

I've caught plenty of big bream using the 2.5 inch Atomic paddle tails in Green Gord and Motor Oil colours.
Normally, when they're active, bream will pretty much attack anything, even big shads meant for lizards! When they 'quieten' down it's usually time to start downsizing, as Dave suggested.
I snip the round 'head' off 2.5 inch Atomics and rig them 'Texas style' with a 1/8th or 3/16th Slider jighead. Rigging this way the lure isn't as prone to snag or collect weed. The point of the hook is set about two thirds the way down the lure, allowing for a better hook up.
I do most of my spinning from the shore, and this method works a treat, not only for bream, but for big flatties as well.
3" Bass Sliders Grubs in P'Seed and Camouflage colour, also work equally as well.

Pukka

Might have to try the Texas technique. I have the Motor Oil colour but have yet to hook up a fish on them. Hopefully heading to the blackwood river this week so i will get on to them then
