Farewell Punter

If you can get to the Perth test, do it!!
Say farewell to a cricket great, Ricky Ponting. It's not as sad as when Steve Waugh stopped being a part of our summer, but the end of another fantastic career.
Boxing day won't be the same. I'm off to cry into a couple of frothys!!

Gotta agree that steve's departure was sad. Punter will be missed as well, as a batsman, for me. I didn't think too much of his captaincy though. Great bloke the both of them.

A mate had the Jehovah's come to his door. They said to him "we'd like to talk to you about the greatest man who walked the earth." His reply " Do you mean Steve Waugh"!!!!
Makes a good pub story that one!

Who replaces him is the question?! Phil Hughes, Alex Doolan??? Does Quiney get another crack. I dunno but James Faulkner batting at 8 as bowling all rounder is something that should happen asap. Him and Watson in the one team is something I'd like to see. Mitchell Johnson is a interesting one, I've always been a fan and I'm glad to see him back. Could take 5-25 or 0-100, either way it will be entertaining.

Good news for Tassie though with Punter coming back.

12 months too long in the game I reckon.

Kwaja should be given an extended run in the side to cement his place. Quiney should never have been given a game in front of Rogers or Watson in my opinion.

They may as well get games into him. He will be a gun, just needs time at the top level.

True it certainly can't hurt to get games under his belt but a lot of gun players have been dropped and won back their spot through weight of runs at state level, Hayden and Steve Waugh spring to mind.

Quiney made stacks if runs over the last few years and deserved a crack but the fact that he is 30 is not ideal but he is a Victorian so ill back him lol

What surprises me more is playing Johnson, IMO that's a big step backwards if they go that way.
Even though we are playing for the number 1 test ranking ATM we are far from the best test side in the world. We need to look to the future.
If dale stayne was firing then SA would be all over us.

No finer batsmen has worn the baggy green since Bradman IMO.

I've really liked punter since I first seen him bat when I was young. I almost shed a tear when Clarke choked up in the media conference.
One of the best to bear the whites.
Hopefully he turns it on in Perth, no pressure no expectations and has a good bat.

Well the future is Pattinson and Cummins. Both out injured so it's not a ideal situation. Starc is in the team and Hilf and Siddle are resting. Hazelwood probly isn't ready. Hastings maybe and Bird probly isn't ready either. I think Johnson is worth the risk considering how well he has bowled at the WACA.

He's a class of his own, let's hope he goes out on some runs so he can leave with his head held high and everyone remember him for the master that he was and not the fallen hero who played one year to long.

I'm sorry, but what Is wrong with Johnson. Granted he is up and down, but when he is up he can tear through batting lineups. I remember the last time I saw aus vs SA at the WACA. Johnson took six wickets in six overs to pull us back in the match. Ashes 2010 at the WACA.

Jonson has bowled some great spells no doubt about that but the amount of rubbish he sends down far out weighs the odd good spell.
If he plays I hope he tears em apart, he certainly has it in him but with a batting line up like SA he better be on his game
