Rod Storage

Hi all,

Just wondering has put rod holders under the gunnels of a 4.0m Widebody Hornet. I am looking for ideas for keeping rods off the floor while travelling.
Thanks in advance.
Altim.

Hey Altim

i went through the same process when fitting out my boat and after searching high and low, i just couldn't quite find a product that would suite what i had in mind and the space that was available.

So i ended up custom making one myself. Not to sure how your wide body is setup but thought this might give you a few ideas anyways.

Where the rod tips enter through the storage compartment i used some skin fittings, that you would typically use for a bilge pump/livewell outlet. The ones that i used had the stainless look on the outside but were nylon on the inside. http://www.chsmith.com.au/Products/S...-Straight.html

I then connected a pvc tube to them so that the rod tips were protected from anything that maybe rolling around in the storage compartment whilst underway.

The rod racks themselves are cut from a expanded pvc so they are totally waterproof and self supporting. i work as a sign writer so i used our cnc router to cut them, you could probably do it by hand if you have lots of time and are handy with the jigsaw and hole saw but the router is the way to go as far as accuracy and overall look is concerned.

The rods are held in place by some bungee cord which runs through a hole in the top and is joined by stitching it together with some braid and then heat shrink over the top.

If you need any other pics or have any questions just let me know, hope this helps.

Cheers Josh

OMG!!!! That's similar to my wide body dory and I've been thinking about doing the same thing. It's great to see it in a picture.. Where did you get all of the bits from? I would love to carbon copy that idea if you don't mind?

Matt.

Well after getting hold of 4m of 100mm x 6mm ally plate, I have built a tool holder, outboard jack plate, and side pocket. Looks like I now have to use the rest to make a rod rack like that. Maybe then I can call my boat "BILLIT"

Good job on the rack.... Nothing better than a nice rack IMO.
