anyone heard of "lure traps"? beware there are sneaky theives around...

anyone heard of "lure traps"? beware there are sneaky theives around...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

G'day all, Ive been meaning to post up this as a warning to all the other lure fisho's for a long time but only just remembered yesterday as i bought my 1st crab pot...

there are scumbags out there who are too tight to buy their own lures and create "lure traps"!!!
i know it sounds weird but the sneaky buggers weigh down crab traps with bricks etc and add some fine mesh/material to the outside and hey presto they have made a snag'

the buggers scout out spots where all the fisho's flick lures the most and deploy their artificial snag.
they leave it for a fortnight and come back and fish it out with a long gaff or grapnel, covered in 20-30 hardbodies

How do I know this you may ask?
well I fished a creek landbased last summer and lost a few lures in a spot where there was no snags before, very strange i thought... didnt feel like the lures clunked into rock or bumped timber...
I was retrieving the lures then they would just, well snag!
needless to say we didnt throw at that spot anymore as we lost a decent amount of money to the 'snag'.

approx 2 weeks later I was fishing the spot with a mate and he says: that snags gone... some bast@rd pulled up in an old heapa junk car threw out a grapnel and pulled in a funky crab trap covered in lures, chucked it in the car and he was off..."

makes me so godamn mad, i really hope the bugger dosent show himself pulling in a luretrap in broad daylight in front of me, I dont know what I would do to the scum!
This is a warning to all fisho's that there is A-holes out there simply pinching 20-30 lures each time they set their trap in heavily fished areas off hard working folks like you and I.
Be Warned

Yeah im a bit crazy like that, just this weekend I had to go for a few swims to get my lure back, we walked past the same area 2 hours later and I spotted 2 bull sharks swimming around lol but there was that much mullet around doubt they would wanna take a bite out of me.. Id rather risk a bull shark over a croc lol no way id be swimming for my lure in croc country

Thats when u need one of those Wilsons lure poles or a 3 pronged anchor and pull the trap up.

There are some true a holes out there and as you say if you catch them in the act you would give them a piece of your mind.

Thanks for the share.

Just a bit of a plug for those Wilson extendable poles, they are about $45.00 and worth every cent. Last trip out it saved me to 2 hardbodies.

yep , by the sounds of it they arnt setting the trap to catch crabs + lures, they are just using the crab pot as a frame to hold the mesh material that your lure hooks in to

Is it that hard to imagine in a world where people kill people for the change in their pockets?

They'd wana check them pretty often then. Cause the hooks would rust and lures most likely float off?
