slimmest knot for thick leaders

I have been chucking some plastics around for flatties lately with 10lbs leader on the light bream rod and it catches on the guides when i cast. Ive tryed a few knots but all do the same.. So just wondering what sort of knot everyone uses for heavier leaders?

I've tried a few knots, double uni's, albrights, etc but they usually have the same issues.

2 things help for me...
1) K guides
2) Shorter leaders or just using a shorter length of 'bite leader' at the end of a normal flouro leader.

But.... I'll be watching the thread because this annoys the hell out of me too.

Slim beauty knot is effective, but with a bit of practice an FG knot or sebile knot is even better. Put in the time to learn it and have not looked back since! I just go back to a slim beauty however if I have to retie on the water.

Hopefully that link works, this taught me to tie it.

I've always used a slim beauty. Never had any issues. It sort of buffers the knot more than anything else.

Try the kane it knot, very similar to the slim beauty, easy to tie and strong as. I often fish long leaders and have the know on the spool when casting and it never gives me problems.

It's quite fiddly to start with, but once you have it, its bloody brilliant

Straight through

Not sure about 10lbs though...Mono maybe? Otherwise the short leader would be the answer.

Until a couple of years ago I always used a double uni.
This knot really "clunked" through the guides and constantly broke with heavier lines and lures.
I swapped over to the slim beauty and have never had a problem since.

Try to tie a knot where the leader tag faces towards you. I prefer double uni for a quick knot or if there's a little time, either the PR or FG knot. The PR will require a tool. Both the latter are tied with no knot on the leader side. Just braid woven/wrapped around the leader.

I like the bite leader concept. Maybe a long 6lb fluro leader and then a short heavy leader when focusing on flatties. Im gonna try that.

Slim Beauty and the Melville Knot are great knots to create a slim profile.

If tied right, very strong, and don't slip like other knots can over time.

The 5-7 turn surgeons knot is also a really good knot to utilise. It is interlocking and hence slippage is really decreased to a complete minimum. Furthermore, you can tie this blindfolded.

It is good to know a lot of knots, but I would stick to the one's that you really do well and have success on.
