Single hook set ups for hards in weed beds.

Carnt wait for the sound of cicaders and those slerps that make the heart bounce and the adrenalin pump. I would like to know what type of single hooks that guys use and what size? Do you rig them facing the same way
ie front hook having the barb come up under the guts of the lure and the back having the barb at the furhterest point away from the tail of the lure? I hope I have explained it properly!!!

Ive got a few surface lures but getting hooked up with weed gives me the tom tits.

I imagine it reduces your hook up rates but getting weed foul your lure time after time it must balance it out. Also do you use them on shallow and deep divers?

Thanks heaps
Trev

I run singles and W's. W on the back with the points facing up, and a single on the belly facing the same way. Surface hookups are usually difficult at the best of times and most hokups will come from the W.

I was reading on a bass site a fella was chasing bass with sigletts in a dam and changed the trebles to the ecogear zx style hooks , apparently his hook up rate doubled . Cheers Mark

thats intersting to hear mark, might try that, although i rarely miss a fish with the treble, i wonder if the action is better without the treb, will try it.

Hey mate,
W Hooks are double shank hooks as opposed to triple shank trebles.

They can allow you to position and control the hook points of the lure a little better and can be rigged facing up or facing down to facilitate increased chances of hookup or more of a weedless style design.

Thats pretty interesting. I see alot of guys pulling good fish on the tiny ZX style hooks.

Only downside to them is how freakin expensive they are.

Yeah what joel said mate. I tend to only run them on surface lures where there is a lot of weed though. I have gamakatsu singles on my jackall TN's for bass, and sometimes W's on the belly depending on what the structure is like. I like the sound of using the ZX's though. It's prabably even worth making your own by snelling some size 1's and 2's with some dacron, as the ZX's are really costly.

Yeah hearing ya , I did a search for old mates thread on the bass site but couldn't find it . I'm pretty sure he made his own version of them with a heavy braid or thread of some sort , this would cost SFA .

Yes Olbarboy, that was me Although i have had assistance with production..

I may have been in the "science lab"with a few hooksets.

So far i have ventured into getting some "Double Crushers" that are for species such Jewies, Yellas and still get bream.. I have also manufactured a smaller hook size for Bream And trout...

For now i have been Field testing them.. And they have worked a treat...

A double hookset with feelers that can be attached to a lure.

Had to name it something...

OB, like crabcrusher, I tie my own set ups. CC's hook set up can be seen here.

I tie them in a range of sizes for small lures thru to larger snapper lures. I drop a spot of glue on the hook, tie Dacron, bit of "dressing up" and then finish off with a clear nail polish over the Dacron knot on the hook. You can knock out a few while watching Bathurst!
