Dory Rear Casting Deck Build

Looking for a heads up on a planned rear deck build for my Stacer Seahorse / Quintrex Dory.

I've done a search & seen the results from Gaffer & Spanito's boats, but wondered if there was anyone else with the same hull that has undertaken the task.

Of particular interest is how the deck affected the full tilt of your motor, particularly if its a manual tilt 30/40hp yamaha. Or, if applicable, how you over came the fact that it will not fully tilt with a deck.

Hey mate, I actually bought that boat off gaffer back in the day

he did a really good job with the build and I had no issues with motor being fully tilted up. Was really well thought out with plenty of extra room for storage, fuel tanks etc etc. I had plenty of fun in that boat both in the estuaries and offshore. Having the hydrofoil fitted to the yammie also made quite a big difference considering the extra weight of decks, live well etc etc. Would definately recommend similar modifications if your thinking along those lines.

Don't mean to hijack this thread but I've got a 420 Dory that I'm thinking about adding a bow-mount ... only issue is i'm not too sure what to do about the curved section on the bow? At this stage its just a basic boat and I've been using the two seats as casting platforms but I'm thinking of building up a front deck. I have used the search tool but if anybody had any more pics or ideas it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

u will need to get a plate welded on so it sits level

Hey mate I had an ally plate welded to my bow to mount my leccy. Also had to get rail cut too.

For the rear deck, I had an ally frame welded in to support the carpeted ply hatches.

Wow thanks mate just what I needed

, probably sounding a bit noobish...but a quick release bracket is what everyone gets right? It's so you can take the motor of the boat right? Cheers

Thanks for the heads up Spanito. Its a mod I definately want to do. Plenty of room at the pointy end for mya, but the crew doesnt have the same luxury at the blunt end presently & the little lady, is .... well.... vertically challenged at best! So need to get here some security & up of the sunken floor.

Cheers; used pictures of your rig to set up my other, smaller boat. Is that yamie tank a standard 25 litre and if so any idea of the transom height? I reckon my 25 litre tank sits higher than that, but then I have the raised shelf back there & maybe yours didnt? Can you clear that up if memory still serves you well?

I didn't use a quick release on mine just hex heads and locking nuts but I live in a good neighbourhood and dont want to pull it off and on everytime i go fishing.

Yep, was just a standard Yammie tank from factory. Had the standard shelf that the Dory came with and the tank just sat on a piece of carpeted ply.

Here's a quick pic of my Dory...

Only did 1/2 the rear deck (as i wanted to keep my clamp seat & i use otherside free to throw backpacks & the like to keep out of way but easy to get to);

Framed it up using aly angle & used 12mm ply.... will get around to carpeting one day....
