Question lures: surf coast estuarys

hey guys,
just want to get an idea of what hard bodys/vibes people are use for along the surf coast (anglesea, painkalac, lorne down to apollo bay).
thinking of diving lures however im sure suspending ones work too. mainly for bream but may target a few stream trout
cheers

Hardbodies -

I like Cranka Cranks, particularly the shallow runners. I use the Lava Prawn colour in dirty water (Painkalac)and Glass Aya in clear (Angelsea). These suspending lures are best when fished very slowly with lots of long pauses. They get hit on the pause most often.

I also like Chubby Minnow lures, both shallow and deep. These aren't the big fat Chubbies, they're the smaller ones. They're also suspenders. I particularly like the Wakasaki (spelling?) colour.

In the warmer weather, when the Anglesea River flats are firing, I like to use Jackall Colt Minnows, which I use a typical jerkbait retrieve with.

Soft plasticks -

My preferred SP are the little 1-1/2 inch Damiki Grub in the motor oil colour. They seem to catch them when everything else is failing.

Blades -

Ecogear VX35 & VX40 in 439 colour. I generally only use these when there's lots of dirty freshwater coming downstream. I locate the deeper holes in the estuaries where bream are likely to be holding.

I use lots of different lures, but the above ones would make a good start for any Surf Coast lure collection.

nah im talking about the ones in anglsea. the torquay one has a half decent berkley and gulp range but nothing else ofintrest. definatly get into longies. if your after sx40's they will have all you want but all other hards i find are in limited colours but they do have a great range of ecogear, jackall, atomic, cranka, luckycraft and all the go to brands.

i have seen them in there before but they are fairly reluctant to hit. all fish i have seen are 40cm+ and jet black. wicked looking fish but they seem tricky. billions of trout though.

It's probably not your fault. The bream fishing at most of the Surf Coast estuaries has been very ordinary lately. The only river that's really clear enough for lures is the Angelsea river and it's very hot and cold, but mainly cold at the moment. I suspect that there's water quality problems, but hopefully I'm wrong.

If you're lucky enough to strike an estuary that's just opened to the sea, then you're likely to get some seriously good fishing on the incoming tide. The Painkalac Creek opened a while back and it went crazy for a while.

Stick at it. It will improve as the water warms up.

Hey Mate,

Most prevalent food source's in Surf Coast estuary are Mullet, Shrimp, and Bass yabbies. Use lures that match these.

Yes the water is a little dirty around here but that doesn't matter. Softies have been working fine for me, even in the dirty water. I fish my softies unweighted on worm hooks at the moment. Water temps have risen considerably at the moment and this is helping.

Keep at it and move around a lot. Unfortunately land based fishing is not the go at the moment. Remember we are heading in the spawning season so id suggest moving further upstream.

Sorry, but i don't really like to suggest particular lures as most lures these days will work. Concentrate your efforts on finding the fish and you should luck out.
