New Bream Bag Limits

Just letting you all know that under the new WA bag limits, as of the 1st of July the bag limit for black bream from Kalbarri to Augusta will go to 4. North of Kalbarri it wil go to 8 but it will remain at 20 for Walpole, Albany etc anywhere south of Augusta.

Whilst this is a good move we take a cut but yet nothing has been done about the pros. They are still allowed to net bream by the tonne, we take cuts but they don't. Things are getting worse not better people.

The thing that bothers me the most is that apathay from anglers will casue us to lose more than any pro could ever take in a net....

i am in total agreence with you ira. 4 fish is a great limit- they should maybe impose a maximum size limit as well to let all the breaders go.

they should also have more officers partoling the areas too. i was shocked to see last night at fishmarket reserve guys "prawning". clearly their only intention was to net bait as there are no prawns up there. whats worst was that as we drove past we saw tiny bream in thier nets as they were soughting thier "prawns" out.

bear and the other guys on shore got some photos of them doing it, but they didnt see how many of these fish they kept

whilst we still have to stop the nets- we also need to deal with some of the rec fishers as well!

Here in NSW the bag limit is 20, which personally I think is to high,
4 blokes fishing in a boat can legally have 80 bream between them!

I totally agree with the new limits, for the sake of the Bream for sure, and this change is definitley overdue. But it is still disgraceful that the bag limits remain the same for areas Sth of Augusta, Nth of Kalbarri. The new limits should be for every river in our state!!!..... And still nothing being done about the Pro down Sth (disgraceful) They are tying our hands when they should be chopping his off.....

I'm in total agreement with Richo!!!
25 bucks each a year would be enough for more officers and better care for our precious resources. Why not introduce a max size limit on all fish. Any bream over about 35cm starts to get tough in the flesh anyway, tailor get worm and parasites when large,etc. Whats the use in killing breeders for S#@t flesh!!!
Anyways it's good to hear that something is being done on our state!

I totally agree with the new bag limits but I still think (like others)
that there should be a maximum size. And if buy any chance someone gets a potential record bream, it shouldn't be killed to weigh it. If it is killed then they record should be disqualified. Until stocks increase it wouldn't be a bad idea for the bag limit to be 2.
A sized bream or 2 is more than enough to feed someone.

On a different note, I came back from fishing a few hours ago and as we were leaving we saw two women, going out with a massive drag net in the estuary to catch fish. Now what really made me angry was we had just caught and released 20 or so undersized tailor. And in the past two days we had caught and released over 100 little tailor. These 2 women would have gone out with the intention of keeping everything edible that wriggles.

Besides is dragging a massive net like that legal?

I hope anything like this stops soon so fish stocks are improved.

Hi Ira and everyone else,

I was just reading the Department of Fisheries brochure on the new bag limits.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it is a little misleading. The brochure does not include any of the river areas as it specifies longitude and latitude, which is coastal only. Therefore, the rivers are not covered. As I said the brochure is very misleading.

Can someone help me with my interpretation of this?

The problem is Richo they don't want buy him out, otherwise they would have a long time ago. The wrong prople at the helm of some committies and boards not only that some may even have a vested interest

Chris what river were you in. If it were the Swan then dob them in. It is illegal, if it were Mandurah then I think that they can do it however I beleive that they can only net Mullet and Whiting.
