2nd the Dorado combo, I was very impressed with Piscateur's rod/reel combo/weapon of Milky destruction, even if it did take 1 hr to land that milky, thru no fault of the rod/reel, more paranoia on Piscateur's behalf, which i can not blame him after loosing fish all week for no logical reasoning., I am now saving for a branzino ( the wife thinks I'm saving to take her to Europe next year ).

get a t-curve 7'6" longcast barra or 6'8" power cast. They are much better rod for plastics and poppers than the 70s. the tips down't fold away like the 70s and the tapers are faster to - which means they lockup earlier for greater lifting power. the new 3D 70S rod is firmer than the older 70s, which would probably be more suited for what you want having said that, for almost half the price and a very well performing blank the tcurves are very nice. the old 70s has oversized guides and is more suited to light jigging than anything else.

Happy to see a popper casting comp between the "jigging only" 70s vs the t curves. Also dont get what u mean by the tip folding away.

i personally prefer a soft tip, aids in casting and find it better when working small to medium poppers and stickbaits. i preferd the old a rounder as it was rated a bit lighter and had a softer tip.

Nice lot of info here.
Are you guys talking about the difference between:

-Saltiga S-Extreme 2011 70S Spin 7'0"/2pcs 10-40g PE 1.2
and
- Saltiga Dorado A Rounder 70S 7'/2pc 10-40g 8kg

The current Saltiga S-Xtreme 70S is a completely blank to the old Dorado 70S. Yes they are both designed for casting primarily.

The S-Xtreme is now stiffer and faster action than the old rod due to people's preference for faster action rods nowadays, especially in Australia where the S-Extreme rods are designed for.

Why not look at the 2010 Saltiga AR70S-F ? Its very light and relatively skinny which will suit the Branzino 3000 and has a very responsive tip for working most lures.

If you plan to jig offshore with it, they're not ideal but you can get away with it, otherwise the above rod is perfect.
