Which leccy to buy????

Just scored a second hand 399 proline angler for a bargain and want to start setting it up, i am picking up a lowrance mark 5x dsi this weekend but next on the agenda is a electric motor. I have had a quick look at the Minn Kota riptides with I pilot but they are bit over my budget atm, do any other brands have a similar gps based auto pilot function at a lower price or am I going to have to save my $'s? Also for this size tinny would 55lbs thrust be enough/ to much?

Cheers
Saro

Check out the US, I bought my 55lb riptide with iPilot online and had it delivered within a couple of days for less than half what they cost locally...

no other gps ones with the spotlock feature

55lb would be ideal for that boat mate.

Not to keen on buying something like this online would a rather have some warranty with it, looks like I will have to try and save enough to have it ready to go for summer! Thanks for the advice.

Just do not consider a WS mate. Save the drama and go with the Kota.

You could also look into buying a minn kota riptide - and buying an i-pilot head separately, should work out cheaper than buying an i-pilot straight up.

Or if you are into cable steer, you can get a minn kota/motorguide for $800ish delivered

If you go this way mate make sure the motor is post 2007 or the ipilot can't be fitted.
Also when you buy it save some money by fitting a Watersnake quick release bracket they fit straight onto the kota, holes line up perfectly.

I have used a few different electrics over the years. Post divorce I saved and got a 55lb I Pilot. Love it, spot lock is a really great feature.

I would suggest you save up. Dont buy it O/S as you said no warranty. I know someone who got one fron the states and has spent more than what he saved getting it repaired.

If your really desperate get a hand operated Minn Kota until you can afford an I Pilot. You wont be sorry u waited.
