My Duff Quiver as Requested

OK, I got a spare second and wrote something up quickly for any of the guys that want to know what I use my quiver for and some ratings/part numbers.
There are a few models I dont have that you may want to look into as well.

2x X840DSi
Guides: Titanium FUJI K stripper and tip with recoil infils
7' 1-4kg X fast taper
I use these for everything, they are the ultimate bream all rounder. You can use them for light plastics on the flats, hard bodies over rocky points or blades in the deep. They are the closest rod to a perfect all rounder I have used.

2x X820DSi
Guides: Titanium FUJI K stripper and tip with recoil infils
2x X820DS
Guides: Smoke FUJI K straight through

6’10” 1-3kg X fast taper
These are very similar to the 840 but obviously shorter. You know how with loomis you have the light 8200 and then the 820 that is a bit too much sometimes. This is the rod in between that throws lights plastics with ease but has a heap of power in the but section because of its extra fast taper. Some guys say this is great for plastics and some say HB’s, this is why I run 4 X820’s, two for plastics with recoils and two with K guides for fluro straight through. Great rod for accuracy casting at pontoons and hulls, I use my two that I bought for designated HB work in every crankbait situation excluding racks.

1x X860DSi
Guides: Titanium FUJI K stripper and tip with recoil infils
7’2” 1-5kg X fast taper
This rod I think is a really good cross over for someone that throws blades and heavier plastics for bream and also chases bass with plastics and blades too. This is a great rod for throwing blades a long way and it has a ton of power in the butt section. I use mine for blades and heavier plastics most of the time and in summer I throw top waters with it as well.

1x TBS70135
Guides: Titanium FUJI T stripper and tip with recoil infils
7’ 3-5kg Fast Taper
This is the rod Dizzy Borg said “should be call the destroyer as it destroy's any chance a fish has to get away” (quote) and I totally agree with him. The first time I used this rod I nearly ripped a big EP’s head off. I use this rod for rack work and obviously for Bass fishing with spinner baits and Jackals. Extremely powerful yet still light and comfortable to use for some applications when breaming.

1x TPF76213 Platinum
Guides: Smoke FUJI K stripper and tip with black pearl with recoil infils and peuter bindings
7’6” 1-3kg Fast taper
This rod is called the flats and I think you can guess why. I have only recently purchased one and was very impressed with it. Great for plastics, blades or HB’s in my opinion. I will be using this rod a lot! The taper gives this rod a much different action to the X Series, this rod is parabolic and absorbs the fishes head shakes well, Exactly what you want on the flats.

Hope this helps anyone considering to buy a Duff rod. The guides can vary depending on what you order.

Cheers
Chris

Thanks for taking the time to pen that Chris. Great to get that sort of review from someone that has first hand experience with such a range of rods.

How do you find the X Fast rods 840/820 with light hard bodies. One thing I like about my Samurai 203 is the medium-fast taper.

I totally understand your question, The X fast taper label is a bit of a throw off when you think of a hard body rod but its very hard to explain. They are not a really stiff Xfast taper. Im not really a big SX40 fan so maybe someone else that uses them could post a comment. I use atomic cranks, jackals, marias and sx43's and I can tell you they all cast really good, both accuracy and length. I use fluro on both my hb rods so that may make a small difference.

What do you use it for MOST chris? Racks? I went with a 841 2-6kg that Dizzy in fact helped Duff design, used for fishing down deep with big jigheads over reef where they try and plant you back into structure. I original wanted Steve to build me a "light jew rod but heavy bream rod"

Can't wait for delivery!

You could quite easily use this for what you wanted. I use it for bass and racks. Because I fish for bream mainly now it doesnt get a lot of use but I would be lost without it in really heavy structure. I dont often fish deep reefs. When I fish deep they have nothing to do me on so a 860 is what I would prefer to use for bigger bream jigheads (1/8, 1/6, 1/4).

If you decide you want to hit the dams a bit it would be a very good start, you can throw most bass lures with it.

I would think the one you ordered would be in the same kind of area, I have not picked one up so Im not 100%.

How do you like the TBS 70135 7' 3-5kg Chris?

How do you think it would go for surface lures/worm hook rigged plastics over racks?

Todd, its got heaps of power for the racks. Very good for most surface lures in heavy structure. I havent tried throwing hidden weight shrimps over the racks with it. I throw SX43's mainly in the racks and I find it casts pretty good, I can get right next to the washboards and get the lure super close. Im not sure how to compair it to other rods you may have. It has the same sort of feel as the DSR820 but ofcourse bigger and with more power. You would probably just need to get use to casting really light lures with it as it has a totally different feel to the usual bream rods Duff has, it is actually a mid strength bass rod and has the power you would expect from one.

Cheers
Chris

I've got the Duffrods X-821dsi, I was just wondering if it's stiff? I'm not strung up on accuracy as most of the time i'll just pelt surface lures over the trays.

If it is stiff it will be good for working surface lures..

Its very stiff, thats what I meant when I was comparing to a DSR820, little give in the tip until a fish is on.
