cleaning painted hulls
Hey guys,
I haven't posted here before but I've been a silent observer for a while. Maybe somebody here can help me out with a question I posted on Sportsfish: Well, I finally bought my boat. I'll get some picks together soon and post the details, but first I have a bit of work to do on it. When I picked it up there were some big sticker on the side that the previous owner had just put there, they didn't look to good and started coming off when I took it for a test run. The first thing we did when we got back to Sydney was to remove them, only to discover that they were hiding some marks on the hull. The marks are the outline of previous stickers, one is a phone number, they have to go. It's not just the residue of old stickers, but the parts of the hull that were not covered have faded slightly and covered parts are still the original colour. How can I fix this? Is it just a matter of sanding it back and re-sprying that portion of the hull? if so, what's the best way to do this? The marks are in the middle of each side, so I can't just put fresh stickers there. With the boat the bloke gave me a tin of touch-up paint, can this be used to touch-up a large area (about 30cm square) or do I need to spray? Boats are all new to me, so any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Andrew |

I had a Swiftcraft a few years ago that was badly stained and faded. Used Automotive cut and polish , came up like new.

sorry Swoffa,
The Swifty was a glass boat, but still worth a try on yours maybe. |

Mine's a quintrex with the standard off-white painted alloy hull, is it possible to damage it if I try a cut-polish?
