I have referred a couple of people to the Australian Customs site as they do have a pdf document on there that covers these types of things. let me check and i will try to find the link. otherwise if you know a customs agent or the people you are dealing with recommend a freight forwarder they should help you out.

I have imported a secondhand boat/trailer. Cant see any difference with a new rig. Presume it s USA? Trailers have numbers just like here. You fill in a trailer import form, send it off , plus $50. You probably know that to import a tralier without a permit is a fine of $13,000 plus you have to pay to ship it back to the sender.
You get photos of the plates attached to the trailer and boat that have the VIN s etc send these with you application. Bit complicated becaus e the USA uses different terms, for towing masses etc. My shipping agent got all the measurements and filled the form in.

I presume you have discussed this with an agent they do this all the time.

Also you have to modify the trailer to get it registered here eg lights, over ride brakes.

Some guys just import the boat and buy a trailer here. Have it ready when the boat arrives.

Aren't US trailers an issue because they are 2.5 wide an aussie ones are only 2.3?

Why don't you just import the hull and get and aussie motor and trailer?

The credit given for a brand new trailer is no where near the value of what it costs to get a new easy tow trailer here. It's alot harder to transport te boat from point to point as I've looked into this avenue .

Has any one imported a brand spanker, not brand new from a showroom , but brand new as it hasn't been made yet ?

Thanks for all the responses do far.

In regards to the width. The trailer I'm looking at in under the Australian regulations

Toby

I cant see why it will be any different to importing a second hand boat. When a hull and trailer is made, they will have VIN and HIN number put on the trailer/boat by the manufacturer. It may not necessarily be registered in the USA. You will just need the manufactuer to provide you with the certificate of title.

I've just imported a second hand Triton from USA, through Import-Usa-Boat. Ian's had plenty of experience importing boats. Jump on his website and send him a email to confirm your question.

Cheers
CS

I'm sure Toby you know this but for those that don't. One may get into a bit of poo if one imports say a NEW Triton with out going through the Aus dealer (nitro marine GC) Stratos (cunninghams marine) etc etc...
Usless but of info for this thread but Just a thought for anyone considering it.

easy out.

i know a guy who brought a skeeter brand spanking new, sold it back to the dealer for a $1 then brought it again as second hand rig.

i know of this working a few times now.

also tobymcclure, why new. you can get a second hand one for 1/2 price. also with less than 20 hours on motor.

Specially after the top bass tourno's have finished over there.

sponsors of top anglers want a new boat each year.

worth a look.

also Steve Morgan, Kris Hickson just brought in 2 awesome new boats.

PM Steve I am sure he will answer what he can.

Tony
