What would you pick?
Hi all,
Just after some info on a new reel please, I am currently leaning towards the '11 caldia or the '11 ballistic... It is to match up to a 3-5 kg Duffrods Basstix so I was looking at a 2500/3000 size and max budget of $250... Also the combo will be used as a "come here" stick for bream whilst also doubling for bass, jacks and barra.. I havnt got the rod yet so I can't take it into the local and match em up and I think I am more so leaning towards the caldia due to the lower gear ratio.. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers Kyle |

Mate go the Rarenium or Stradic FJ. Both are nice and very capable of handling Barra and the like-9 and 10kg's of drag!! I like having a higher ratio on my reels, it allows you to wind up quicker and strike faster and quickly pumping fish out of their snags before they wake up and go berserk!! The Stradic is more solid and the Rarenium is Ci4.

hey mate the balistics are cracker reel for the money, extremely light,
very smooth, oil seal and 7-8kg of drag direct pull of spool. For that rod id match it with a 2500 the 3000 would just be to big. and i think the new caldia is going to be about $350-$400

That statement answers your question. Wait til you get the rod then go and find a reel to suit.

At the moment I am looking to buy from OS because of money side of things, I can pick up a new caldia for $230 and my local is getting the ballistics in and they will be in the same region, I have no hassles in supporting my local but when it comes to saving 100 odd $$$ I'm all for it...
Thanks BTF and breamanater for ur responses, I have looked at the shimano range but I'm a Daiwa fanboy so at this stage I would prefer to stick with Daiwa, also I was kinda put off the higher ratio because I don't particularly like winding soooo slow haha. Also I was intending to take it in to match them up but I was after other ppl's opinions hence y I was asking the qs here... Pls keep the info on them coming. Cheers Kyle |

Highly recommend the new caldias, great reels very smooth, nice sounding drag and they look shmick to! Haven't felt the ballistics but bobby bass seems to like them, reckons their smoother then his certates. Good luck with your choice, either will do the job nicely.

Hi Kyle,
Not sure you'r aware that 11' caldia bring in by Daiwa Australia will has a spare spool (indicate in website) but no spare spool if you getting it from jp, hence, there'll be a price difference. It costs arounf $100 (quote from plat). I'll probably wait till it comes out in Australia unless you are after the 2506/2508.... Cheers Matthew Last edited by matthewsiow; 22-11-2011 at 11:22 PM. |
