Serious Choice on reel upgrade
OK Hotshots,
I need some advice here. Ive currently got a Shimano 2000 series from about 1997 thats starting to get a little unbalanced and worn and torn, mainly because I knew jack about looking after it properly, so Im going to bight the bullet and upgrade. What are your experiences/recommendations about replacing it? I like the Shimano range, should I stick to it? What about a comparison against say a Mitchell or a Daiwa in the same class (a 1000 or 2000 spinner)? And no Im not quite ready to spend 500-700 dollars on a you beaute gold plated ferrari reel, but a couple of hundred is feasible and realistic. Ideally Id like it to suit my 6 foot Silstar powertip. Any thoughts? |

I have a Shimano Stradic 1000 FH and i think it is a nice reel for the price. It comes with a 10 year warrenty(compared to Daiwa's 5 year warrenty). Very smooth reel and quality bearings.
cheers

I'll back Wandy on the Stradic call. Smooth, light, good drag system and handles braided line well with the worm gear system. Probably the cheapest worm gear driven reel around. You're not paying a ridiculous price either at just over $200.
cheers

Stradics are sweet reels for sure, I have one and it has taken a fair bit of abuse
However, for en extra 80 or so bucks you could look at a Daiwa Capricorn, which are are, in my opinion, way, way, way better. I've had my capricorn about 8 months, and it has had the crap flogged out of it, has endured my extremely shoddy version of "gear maintenance" and is still as good as new. Plus, it has the sexiest sounding drag of any reel I've ever used, you'll end up pulling line off the reel just to hear it, ohhhhh yeeaaaahhhh Go the capricorn Duncan |

I got the Stradic 2000 and can't find fault with it, has stood up to the plate on many occasions without failure.

It's one or the other
Both the Stradic and the Capricorn are your choices as far as my 2 cents worth goes on this subject, I don't know where your gettin your reels Duncan M but from us the stradic is $230 and the capricorn is $249.
I have used both, own both and i love both, can't decide which one i like better . Either way your getting a quality reasonably priced reel, that should serve you well. Regards Geoff P
