Alumium or Ply Decking

Getting a few modifications done to the boat and thought about getting the decks done in ali. Just though it might save on weight thus a saving on fuel. Any thoughts?

I have ally lids

On the bow on my boat , not the happiest with it , can be a bit noisy.

I was wondering about the noise factor but was thinking of wrappining carpet backaround the under side to stop it banging.
Have you got carpet on yours Geoff.
