What's your thoughts on copied lures???

Was mooching the net bored and found this site..
Is this who makes atomic lures?? Or are they copies or did atomic copy??
Check some if the models there identical, diff paint.
Some of them look awesome! Not trying to start any arguments or anything like that, just after opinions
Thoughts?

Copy's don't bother me, if they work just as well and cheaper.

I think this came up awhile ago with a different lure that I won't mention. I think the conclusion was moulds can go out to heaps of different companies as it would cost to much to own your own mould. It's what the companies do to the lures from there that makes them unique.

yes thats the mould that atomics are based on, they share the moulding rights the same as the atomic shad 40 is a japanese bassday lure...
Worth to note that lots of lures share the same mould and are marketed under different brands as the costs are so high. The cranka shads share a mould with a pontoon 21 lure on the outside but internally they have been extensively modified for the aust. Market...

The mold that is used for some pontoons and atomics are jointly owned by a jap firm and pontoon 21. Rights to certain models are sold to different firms in different countries and that's why the pontoon versions are not available in aus. Cranka mold is from another factory and enough has been said in the past on it. . Atomics and pontoons are not copies of each other, just different names on the same product.

I guess its because companies are running out of idea's and the fact mentioned before that moulds are shared.

wait a minute IDEA!!! I wonder who makes the moulds, if they are all shared no company could have had one mould to themselves. so who's the guennius behind them.

We are all for this idea of a database that exposes the plagiarists.

Leading fishing manufacturers from around the world have given qualified support to a call by Rapala to draw up a database of copyright infingers. The global lure making giant has revealed plans to get tough on the copiers by stating it will take legal action against the fraudsters and has called for them to be named & shamed on an international database.

Gerard Bakkenes, Shimano Europe Marketing Manager said "I don't think it is necessary for a database but it is important that the companies who own the intellectual property fight these thieves. "Shimano has a clear policy against the copiers we attack and go all the way in the courts if need be. Ending up in court is a last and costly resort, but protecting your property is very important. "Generally I believe the situation is getting better, but it is still rife in China & the former Eastern Bloc countries where we have seen immitations of our rods.

Mads Grossell, Head of Product Development at Svendsen Sport said "More or less every new lure on the market has been invented so it is very difficult to police, but we should do anything we can to stop the copiers. "If a database highlights the problem and the perpetrators it will have done some good.
"Our stance at Svendsen Sport is to go after anyone ripping off one of my personal designs".

Florida lure manufacturer Boone Bait has been the victim of copyists in the past, but while applauding any attempt to curb them, owner Peter Foley believes time and cost involved in taking action against the offenders makes it prohibitive for many companies.
Trademark & patent attorneys can cost up to $750 an hour and you have to wonder if it's worth it. The cost of winning case is too much. "You are not going to stop them especially China. More power to the organizations and businesses who try to stop them, but market leading products will always get knocked off

Hang on, wasnt it already established above the design of those Pontoon and Atomic models are shared, not copied?
