sienna question
hey all
i know questions have been asked about the shimano sienna's before, but i was just wondering, if they have lost the quality to what they used be a few years back. Recently noticed there only 40 bucks now, imo thats a crazy price for the quality of the reel. Just after a back up bream setup that's all, and was just curious. ![]() cheers dan

Even if they did lose quality, they still dominate that pricerange as the standout reel.

You cant get one for much cheaper than $40 anywhere except M O Tackle, even overseas. BUT thats only the 1000 model the 2500 (same drag 3kgs as 1000) is $47... most places are $59 for either. You'll notice how good shimano prices are on M O's site... I pretty sure they get a really good deal from Shimano, most stuff they get in is less than a week wait but other brands can be a month. Thats my experience with them.

I have 2x 1000, a 2500 and a 4000 sienna... lol I think i'm cheap... but in defence the 4000 was a starlo stix snapper combo i was given, was $120, 2500 was a A Mart All Sports voucher I was given and 1000's I actually parted money for on my own.

They are great little reels.... Simple, reliable and they work. The drag is much smoother than the poorer brands that sit in the same price range.
Mine does not get much love as it's mostly for mates to use occasionally but I've still pulled some great bream on it. |

I'd steer clear. I have had 2 now, the 1000 drag clicker snapped off the first day I used it, and the 4000 just felt cheap.
I'd take a cheap shakespear combo or something before I bought another sienna. |

I got a 1000 model for my wife and it is still going well, a standout in that price range I reckon. As for the price of them where did you see them cheap? Dont quote me but I think a certain three lettered chain store was selling them cheap to get rid of stock. From memory something about having the same reel badged differently for them vs the rest of the market, like they do with Daiwa gear. |

I bought a combo Shimano Catana rod and a 1000 Sienna to fish 4 lb braid for $99. about 7-8 years ago and its still going strong. I love the lightness of the combo and throw everything from HB's,metal slugs to SP's on it and I cant fault it. I can't justify spending hundreds of dollars on spin gear (yet I do on fly gear
) when that little combo gets the job done and feels real comfortable in my hands. The drag has been tested on a few good fish namely trevally up to 50 cm and a couple mid 40's drag pulling Tarpon caught on searock 7 gm slugs. No regrets - buy one or even a couple for spares. Pat.

I'd have to agree with most of the people who have posted so far, they are a great little reel for the price, I've got the older one in a 1000 series and it's still going strong and I had recently purchased a new one for a back up reel and it is still the goods for the price...( Although I do prefer the colour scheme of the older model
)... Definitely would recommend them for the priceCheers Kyle |

the prices have come down on a lot of shimano gear under $200 in the last few months. think it is as they have cancelled some models en this price range such as the slade and everything else has been adjusted. i know the sahara reels have dropped around $50 and i think the sedona has too. the sienna is still a great reel for its price, i prefer the cosmetics on the newer model compared to the old one.

I own a sienna 2500 and it is very smooth. I've also caught kingfish on it, as you can see in my avatar, and the drag was smooth and the reel handled it with ease.

I've owned one of the older Sienna's for a few years and simply can't fault it. It has not been treated well but just keeps on going. Never had a single issue with it and still use it regularly catching some good fish.
Awesome little reel, sure beats all the other reels i have tried in the same price bracket by a mile. |

Great little reels for the price. Been working in tackle for the last few years and never seen one come back with any issues.
