New reel.. Big decisions!!

G'day guys..

Im in the market for a new reel and looking to spend a max of $250. I've been looking around for a while and think I have narrowed it down to the following reels;

-Gekka MX 2004
-Emeraldas Infeet 2506
-Tierra 2500
-E-gee 2506
-Infeet 2004

The reel will mainly be matched up to a Lox Yoshi 1-3 7'62 rod.. And may get chucked onto a smaller 6'6 model in the future..

Combo mainly used for chasing bream..

Anyone able to shed some light on any of these reels to help me make the decision..

Gekka MX I rekon. Wouldn't put a 2500 size reels on a 1-3 lox.

Yeah i would go the Gekka aswell. Seem like a decent reel.

i reckon the gekka is the best bet. 2500 would be way too big and heavy on a lox i reckon

Not to be assumptive but none of you guys have a 7'6" lox do you? it is a massively tip heavy rod, much like the reast of the yoshi range.

A 250X would be much better balanced to that rod, even the 6'6" in the range is tip heavy with a 230 gram reel on it. Personally I would go the emeraldas infeet at 235 grams and have a more versatile reel. The outfit will still be tip heavy but the extra line retrieval (over the 2004's) and more adjustable drag (over the tierra) would make it very suitable for breaming and many many other species.

I currently run 2500's and 2506's on all my lox's unless it is in fresh where I use a 1503 (which still weighs 235 grams)

My only concern with the emeraldas is the body construction.. I read on another thread that the body isn't metal.. Any idea what its made of??

I've had a look on the diawa australia website but I couldn't find anything regarding the body/rotor construction..

If you're on a budget and looking for a reel that will last for quite some time.

Despite how much of a floggin it gets, look at a Stradic FI instead.

Daiwa tend to play up more then Shimano reels.

I have yet to have a single fault with any shimano reel so far that effect the performance of the reel in general.

But in saying that, some Daiwa reels are more enjoyable to use.

With a bit of care, it should last a fair while.

I do. Personally I run a 1000 DA Luvias on mine. Either that or a 2000 Sol/Heartland. I like a slightly tip heavy rod for Hardbody fishing. He's gonna run it on the 6'6'' as well I think a 2500 will be way to big for that.

Go for the emeraldas infeet or the gekka mx 2004.

I stand corrected Chief, I run a 230g (certate 2506) or 235g vintage custom on my 6'6" yoshi and it is still tip heavy. Horses for courses really. I don't mind a tip heavy rod either and tend to agree with you on that but not everyone can handle it.

Best bet for the OP is to try reels of various weights and see what feels right.

Thanks again guys.. Im going to take my rod around and chuck a few reels on it to see how it feels.. Only drama I have now is trying to find tackle shops here in WA with those reels in stock!!

Yeah I put my 2500 Luvias on my 7'6'' LOX and it does feel good and will probably cast a mile but personally it just looks a bit big for the but size of the LOX. More of a look thing with me I think.

Hey guys Ive just noticed that I can get a 1000 twin power FC for $239.. So this reel is now within the budget..

Anyone got any thoughts on how the twin power stacks up against the gekka and emeraldas 2506??

Are the 1000 size shimano's prone to windknots??
