Shimano Stradic ci4 2500 Vs Daiwa Luvias 2000

hey all,

Doing some window shopping on what I can spend some tax money on , Thinking of selling my 2500 CI4 and strapping on a 2000 Luvias onto my 2-4kg Luvias rod.

I like the stradic feels nice and all I have a couple of things I dont like.. but I would like to try a daiwa reel and the Luvias seems to fit the bill perfectly.

Anyone have an opinion on doing the swap could you feel the quality difference between the two reels? I love my light fishing so I will be strapping some 4lb braid to the reel.

Taking the rod into a local tackleshop tomorrow see how it all feels on the rod but I don't see it being a problem as its the same weight as the Stradic.

Look at the Shimano Rarenium Ci4 2500 mate.

Cost the same price as the Luvias, and worth the extra $$ above the Stradic.

Around ($349) for the rarenium.

Cause of the slower ratio compared to the Stradic.

It is ALOT smoother, Same Ci4 Material and comes with a spare spool.

In saying that, they both will perform good.

I plan to get another Luvias soon for breamin as it was awesome to use when I did have one.

I regret ever selling mine.

Did anyone else notice how much flex is in a stradic reel stem? As an experiment grab ya ci4 and flex it a little you be surprised how easy it is to flex.
Now try it on a luvi, not one bit of flex.
In my very humble opinion the luvias is a much better reel.
To me it feels better to wind, cast and fish with in general but I'm quite bias to daiwa. Having said that I have owned both and for my money they just don't compare. Cheers stealth

I've tried flexing both and the Luvias flexes more at the reel stem and at the rotor. The luvias didn't even feel smooth, and this was a brand new one in the shops. Every Ci4 I have felt is smooth, and they feel very solid for something that is made of graphite/plastic/carbon infused materials or whatever you want to call it. I have also used both on the water, my personal preference would be the Ci4, smooth, tough as nails, you can't ask for more than that.

I agree with the Ci4 feeling stronger, but the Stradic Ci4 is not smoother then the Luvias, haha.

Must have been a faulty one, as I have owned 2 Luvias's and both felt better then the Ci4's my brother owned and the ones I had a play with in the shops.

Weird, I tried this with my silver luvi and it had less flex. Anyway yes I also think the stradic is smoother, but I hate the play in the stradics handle and the points I mentioned above.
I guess horses for courses, but yeah I would take a luvias over a stradic anyday but as I said my very humble opinion.

In my experience after owning a Ci4 1000, Ci4 2500, Luvias 2000 and Luvias 2500.

Luvias

Pros
No flex in the stem
Handle spins freely
Moderately smooth (2000) to smooth (2500) on the wind
Handle/gearing feels solid (no play)

Cons
Could do with a bearing under the spool instead of that useless bushing
Roller bearing prone to noise if not cared for well

Stradic Ci4

Pros
Lighter for the size, but not by a lot
Good solid drag
Reasonably smooth on the wind (about the same as my Luvias 2000)

Cons
Play in the handle
Little bit of effort required to gain momentum when winding
A little flexy in the stem, but I never noticed it when hooked up
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suffice to say that I am by no means a Daiwa man, but there is a reason that I no longer own Stradic Ci4's and instead own Luviaseseseseseseseseses.

True, true. I'm in no way saying stradics are bad I believe both reels are awesome bits of kit both doin the job more than well.
For my usage I enjoy using the luvi alot more.
I also should note that the stradics are a bit cheaper.

Are you guys usings these reels for just bream?? I would say either are just fine for the job. If you were going for bigger pelagics then i would say stay away from the ci4 as i know of some unhappy customers. The original stradics are a tougher reel.

I've been using my 2500 Ci4 on rat kings, snapper as well as bream and still feels the same as the day I got it. No play in the handle or anything.

I also have a luvi 2000 (silver model) which I wouldnt even contemplate using for rat kings, but feels much better for bream.

Horses for courses.

Love my silver Luvias, it's buttery smooth and handled everything from Bream to 4kg red Bream in the year and a bit I've had it. But would I sell a CI4 just to get a Luvias if I was in the same situation? Most likely not. The gain for the money lost isn't worth it. If you didn't have the Stradic and was tossing up between the two then I'd say get the Luvias

I would go a Luvias but I'm a bit biased on the subject. I own 7 Daiwas lol!

I have 2 DA Luvi's and a Silver one and love em.

Does the slower retrieve ratio make much of an impact? I use hards and plastics etc. I don't think I've had a reel with that slow a ratio. Just takes more wind to get the slack in I guess wouldn't be too dramticly different?

Thanks everyone for voicing there opinion hopefully I make it to the tackleshop today. ( damn work stopping from my fishing)
