bad patch atomic crank38 mid??

I tried my new atomic hardz crank38 mid today, and it dived very shallow (~30cm under the surface).

According to its package, it is stated that the mid can dive to 0.3-0.7m. At first I thought maybe it is a shallow being put in the wrong package (the shallow is stated to dive 0.3m), but I checked later and according to its bib shape it is definitely a mid.

Any thoughts? Cheers.

I've got a few mids and they dive deeper than that. Does it swim to one side? Does it have good action still?

I think its action is normal. If I retreive very fast then it can dive a bit deeper around 50cm, and it floats to the surface very quick. I think this is not normal as it is supposed to dive deeper with normal retreive speed.

And have to mention I fish around Brisbane, so the salinity wont be too high. Cheers.

put some sticky weight on it will cast further dive deeper and suspend so it wont float up so fast, also crank it fast the first few cranks then slow your retrieve down that makes it dive down then slow winding keeps it at that depth, but if you whind them to fast they roll around and loose there action, but sometimes a shallow running lure is good on sand flats less then a metre deep

Thanks mate I will try. I am just curious to know whether I got a bad patch of not. Maybe I will grab another mid and see if they are different. cheers.

Some lures need to be cranked/sweeped down to there working depth, chubbies and atomics in particular.
What line have you got attached to it? the thinner the braid/fluro the deeper it will dive.

also might be a silly thing to suggest but just to make sure we cover all bases,
how high are you holding the rod tip from the water when retrieving?

Have had the same thing happen.Got some shallow and mid atomics and was disappointed in how shallow they swam and they are very bouyant. Was hoping they would be similiar to the zipbait hickorys. Will have to try some suspenda dots or the like.Has anyone used any thing else to alter the atomics.

cheers......Roy

I just bought 6 and really pi$$es me when they all
Rolled on there side and came to the surface.

In a tournament you really don,t want to take each one
Out of there packs and have to bend a tweak each one.
I got that frustrated with one it got smashed after 10 minutes or more maybe
Trying to make the thing swim.

My shads which I love after using heaps I have never had to stuff around with at all.

When I come to think about it I've always found that the atomics don't swim as deep as I think they should, and they have always risen very quickly. These attributes arent always a negative though - the shallow crank is awesome for fishing very shallow rockbars and weedbeds and I think that a pause isn't always critical for catching yellowfin bream.
If attentive to your retrieve you can use the bouyancy of the lure to rise up over snags....

love my atomic cranks. Shallow dives to 0.3 but only at a certain speed too slow or too fast and it becomes a wake bait. Same with the mid all because the rise fairly quickly speed is critical. Fishing in anything up to 1.5 m depth i use the mid exclusively.
Havent had any issues with swimming straight but manufactured in china QC aint thier strong point

Thanks for all the inputs guys.

I was standing close to the water so the position of rod tip could not be the problem. And yes I was using 6lb straight through mono on my baitcaster so that might add a little bit bouyancy but I reckon this was not critical as my other lures worked just fine as usual. Ahhh, yes I meant bad batch thanks for that spelling police.

I think I need to add some weight on it to keep it more "suspend", or I may just keep it as a shallow lure.

But how does the deep version crank38 go? Do they tend to be more "suspend" or also float up so quick like its brothers? Cheers.
