Time spent using new lures

Ok ive been reading reports of people upset at plastics, H.B's and blades not working after an hour of fishing them or say even a day.
What are your thoughts on trying out new lures and how long should you work one before saying they are rubbish or wont work?
Also do you try them at different times of the year or different weather conditions or even different water colours?
Let me know what you think or what you have done to make a dud or bad lure on of your go to lures.

Interesting topic actually, Not only calling it a dud but would be interesting to see what people think the time frame is to change lure colors or styles.

I generally fish with my new hard bodies for half an hour each time I go out (unless I lost a lure which had proved it worked in the first place and bought a new one). at the moment I have an alright 'testing ground' where I whack on new lures and can fish them with confidence rather than throwing them out any where and having no real confidence in them.

the best lure in the known universe won't work if there's no fish there.
First establish if there are fish about then give each new lure about a dozen or so casts. If there are no takers try some of your tried and true lures, if they work for you then you have issues with the new ones.
Of course you could use the tried and true lures first then give the new ones a shot. If there is a noticeable difference between hits then once again, you have issues.
The new lure may not necessarily be a dud however it is a proven fact that given the same conditions some lures work better than others... that's fishing, you need to work out what does and doesn't work for you.

Dunno that's a hard one. I took out a heap of new lures today for a test run. 15 fish later are these lures better than my old ones? You don't really know do you. Could have probly used the old favourite lures and caught the same or more but I must say I'm a huge fan of the Smith Panish now!

I find it more fun catching fish on new lures, sorta justifies buying them. In the last year I don't think I have been fishing without trying a new lure lol!

I like to leave my "go to" lures at home and just take new or different lures out with me, this ensures that I actually use them and not the tried and true ones. they all work at some stage.casting where there are fish helps too

Although I favour certain lures over others, Ive found that most lures will work at the right time.
If I'm fishing an area that I know there are fish in, after a while I will change lures...this varies from time to time and there is no hard and fast rule.
If i'm exploring a new patch of water, with new lures too, I always try and have a "go to" lure rigged on one rod atleast, something that i'm pretty confident will draw a strike, if the fish are there.

I usually start off with the "new" lure just to check if it does catch something. I dont normally change off that lure until then or if one of my mates is catching fish i'll check what colour he's using n hope that I have 1 close to it, otherwise if nothing happens change.
I dont put that lure to the bottom but put it into another little tackle box so that I can try it again some other day.
I have yet to find a lure that hasnt caught me something somewhere along the line. Then again I havent tried colours that are greatly not natural coloured. Cheers Gav.
