Lead Melting Equipment
I bought some Do it molds from US and Hot pot 2 off there website. Long story short after spending about $130, and 2 new elements I found out my adaptor was not a converter and a converter later found the hot pot uses 120v not 110v and its useless.
Im after a production pot to melt the lead. Does anyone know where I can get one? Online or otherwise. I live in Coffs Harbour NSW. I even thought of getting another one (which uses 110v) from Do it molds (since I have a converter now) but may not want to risk it again. Cheers

Simply get an old bbq burner and an old kitchen pot.
Been making my jigheads like that for ages. Dead easy, cheap and effective

Brad is on the money with the lee pots.
Be very carefull with the fumes though guys. Make sure you are in a well ventilated area and use and proper mask with vapour filters. A large company over here in WA has just shut down thier own production as they found that a little lead dust was escaping during transport. Not trying to scare anyone, just making sure you take the correct precuations.

Don't just blow a fan on to the unit as well. When I got my prod pot II I read the intructions carefully and it has all sorts of safety tips. I only ever use mine outside on my balcony when the wind is low. I place a fan to blow over my shoulder away from my face.

Mate I just use an only pot on the BBQ to melt my lead and make my jig heads. I am in Nambucca if you a hand making them. What size jig head moulds did you get. Also where do you get your lead PM me if you need some places

I suggest you guys do a little research into lead and see if you really want to melt the stuff and have the fumes anywhere near you!!!
For the sake of a couple of bucks!!! your health is everything. "Why Is Lead Harmful? When the body is exposed to lead — by being inhaled, swallowed, or in a small number of cases, absorbed through the skin — it can act as a poison. Exposure to high levels of lead in a short period of time is called acute toxicity. Exposure to small amounts of lead over a long period of time is called chronic toxicity. Lead is particularly dangerous because once it gets into a person's system, it is distributed throughout the body just like helpful minerals such as iron, calcium, and zinc. And lead can cause harm wherever it lands in the body. In the bloodstream, for example, it can damage red blood cells and limit their ability to carry oxygen to the organs and tissues that need it, thus causing anemia. Most lead ends up in the bone, where it causes even more problems. Lead can interfere with the production of blood cells and the absorption of calcium that bones need to grow healthy and strong. Calcium is essential for strong bones and teeth, muscle contraction, and nerve and blood vessel function.

so,is this just from the the vapours or dust or are we putting ourselves in danger just from handling jgheads etc.years ago coarse fishing in england,i'd bite down on split shot to fix them on the line and there was always dust in the packets.

Touching it is not that bad, but putting it near your mouth is.
I had a friend who contracted lead poisoning (Radiator Repairer) very nasty stuff! He is slowly on the mend but was extremely ill for a long time. Lead is everywhere, in old paint on houses painted in the late 60's early 70's, roof flashings on older houses, Kids toys from China, Some countries use it to solder their food cans together!!!! My advice keep away from lead! We have been using lead for 3000 years and we knew it was bad back then!! Nick

Gloves, long sleeves, respirator and clear safety glasses are what I use. I know its alot, but if you want to melt it, then do it properly. Otherwise yes, take the advice given and buy jigs. Oh and even when you handle lead, wash you hands well afterwards.

mate, don't get too worried about it, sure its real bad stuff. when i started everyone said it was really bad and all that, and it put me off making jigs for a while but honestly it's not as bad as it sounds. just follow these 3 steps.
1. cover up your skin, (long sleeves, jeans, gloves, etc) 2. have some sort of breeze coming through (fan, windows... outside  )3. wear a respirator. or just buy some pigs jigs  hard work's already done for ya
