RCS knob problem

Hey guys,

Just bought a new certate 2004 and small rcs power light knob today. Tried fitting the thing and im pretty frustrated at the minute. So the problem is that when i tighten the screw up as far as it will go the knob is stiff and wont spin. As i turn the handle the screw starts to undo and then eventually there is some play in the knob. Whats going on?

Only thing that i can think of is that there was only one bearing in the old knob, should there have been two, one for each side of the rcs knob? I refitted the original knob and that is still perfectly fine?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Ryan

Yeah tried both ways and its still doing the same thing. Thanks for the replies though guys, appreciate it. Ive put the original i-knob on for now and as i said its fine.

Can anyone confirm whether the new certates should have one or two bearings in the knob?

Not sure on the Certate, but all the ones I've seen only have one. Did you push the bearing in hard till it "clicked" into place ?? Takes quite a bit of force to seat it properly.

Im pretty sure its sitting in place correctly. I havent heard a click, but ive pushed it into place very firmly (using the face of the screw and a washer so i dont damage the bearing). Dont know why the heck its doing it

I had to force it with a pair of long nose pliers !!! I couldn't push it in just with my fingers. There is a definite click once it's in place properly.

if you have been screwing the screw in and out i would think about putting some thread locker (permatex) on it.
As i have had handle knobs loosen in the past when out in the boat.
