Shimano Stradic ci4 2500F
Hey,
the stradic ci4 that i purchased a while back, arrived the other week, but i think there might be something wrong with it, because there is a bit of 'play' in the reel handle / handle shaft... as if it were loose, but i checked and the handle is screwed in tight, also it doesnt seem that smooth out of the box and u can hear the internal workings a bit when u wind it. The other thing that scared me was, when i was removing some excess backing from the reel, as i pulled the mono from the reel, amongst the drag clicking, there was some grinding noise ![]() Have i bought a faulty product, or should i just take it apart, clean and oil everything up?

My Ci4 2500 had play in the handle, as does my Symetre 2500. Interestingly my Ci4 1000 and Symetre 1000 were both brilliant and had about the same level of play as my Steez (read - more or less none)

I'm pretty sure the bearing in the handle results in a bit of play and the noise you may of heard when stripping off the line is the friction ring,it also can impede the bail arm a bit at the top. Probably worth a service/ saucing since you got it O/S and sending it back is a pain.
cheers nereus

This is why I haven't bought a reel from the US don't wanna take the risk. I like to have in my hand usually before I buy it.

makes me feel a lot better Chief...haha, nah its ok, i just expected more from $300 shimano reel. Im still hopeful the problem can be fixed at the local tackle store...the thing that annoys me the most is the handle play! i didnt even get that with my sh**ty JW reel

Any grinding or clicking noises too just makes me wanna through the reel in the water!I know how pissed you would feel getting a reel all the way from the US and it's no good! |

hey mate,
yeah ive had my stradic for about 6 months now and it has minimal play in the hand, n havent ever had anything wrong with the drag. i would defintly take it into a local shop n get them to service it or send it offf, id say that would be your best option.

I'd seriously look at sending it back. I have the same ci4 2500 and don't have any of these issues at all.

I've noticed play in all my shimano handles but the CI4 2500 has the most.
My stradic 4000fi and even the twinpower 4000fi have a little play but you really have to give em some good pressure to move them. But when I'm out on the water casting and retrieving or playing a fish I really don't notice it cause they are so smooth. My Certate 2500 is zero and luvias 2500 is almost zero movement. |
